Anyone else have absolutely no interest in sport?

From an early age of being forced to play football and rugby and bloody hated cross country running, I’ve never had any interest in sports. I appreciate that for some it’s as important as life, particularly when they get so passionate about something that means absolutely nothing the following season. Never could be bothered with the World Cup or Olympics, it’s all seems so transient to me. Myself, I’m passionate about lots of other interests, it’s not decrying those who do love sport, but often feels like as we enter the summer months our media is dominated but the obsessive sports coverage… Does anyone else feel the same?

The World Cup's going to be a shitshow this year anyway, with the tangerine palpatine doing his best to be a soccerball emperor with Infantile-ino's tongue up his arse.

It's going to be sad if USA go out in the opening rounds. He'll probably declare war on whoever ends them.

I think I didn’t get on very well in the army because I didn’t like any sport. Institutionally they’re mad keen on everyone participating. Always found it boring. Football is 22 windbags chasing a 23rd.

Er, they have qualified, unlike Italy. Who it's been suggested by some close to the tango man should replace Iran in the contest despite having lost out when it mattered.

Only in the demented minds of the MAGA faithful. All the schedules are still showing Iran playing.

I would only watch sports that I play/played myself so... tennis badminton squash hockey, football, rugby. Because Ive experienced them myself I enjoy experience others participating.

But never in a my team better than your team way.

Plus they have to be, not sure how to explain but, multifaceted, lots of elements, including skill.

Not interested in a jump that goes further or a person that can traverse a certain distance in a shorter time, those sort of things.

I like watching people do what I do or have done!

I was a successful sprinter at school even won county AAA championship. But lack of facilities at college and other interests resulted in me stopping. Never really been interested in soccer, rugby. Cricket etc. The only sport I follow now is Road Cycling and because of massive increases in cost of streaming via TNT ie £31 a month up from 3.99 a month on GCN i now watch via SBS in Australia via a VPN.

There was a lot of sport I hated playing when at school including football and cricket.

I liked volleyball, athletics though.

I'm not an avid watcher of sports but to enjoy rugby and athletics, purely for the big muscley men and lovely bulges of the male athletes. Delicious.

..it will be very unfair if Italy do get included as its not a European slot that is now vacant the right choice should be Iraq as they are "next cab on the rank" from that qualifying group...a point made very well by rene mullenstein Ex man utd coach and current coach of Iraq

Can't be arsed with sport. Frankly, I think it says quite a lot about society that fotballers get paid more than nurses or doctors just to kick an inflated ball around a grass pitch. Hardly life or death. But hey ho, rant over!

Me! Never cared about it, doesn't affect my life one iota if a complete stranger wins or loses something, here in Scotland football seems more about politics than sport and even though I support independence I don't really care how Scotland does in the World Cup.

At school I couldn't understand why fellow pupils were so invested in who won at PE, There was no money or benefit in it, so I didn't care.

Guilty as charged, M’lud! There isn’t any type of sport whatsoever that ignites my interest.

I remember as a toddler being taken by a great uncle to watch the local football match one grey, cold, damp Saturday afternoon. It’s one of the most boring, miserable experiences of my life: watching a bunch of guys running randomly around a field chasing a ball, shouting, spitting, falling in the mud, while the men in the crowd yelled, smoked, and hurled abuse at the referee. I just couldn’t wait to get the hell out of there and back home to warm myself by the fire.

That was my one and only time watching a live match. Over 60 years later, I still recall how totally miserable and numb I felt in mind and body.

I also remember having to sit with my Dad as he watched the Saturday afternoon wrestling, which bored the hell out of me too, then the football results, when silence was demanded as he marked his pools coupon — hoping, forever hoping, for a big win and being disappointed every week! Then at last it was all over for another week and I could watch "Just Jimmy" with Jimmy Clitheroe and the wonderful Molly Sugden playing his Mum.

Whatever quality it is in the mind that avid sports fans have is totally devoid in me!

Taking risk must have a purpose, sport has none. Like risk? Try jumping off a cliff, now that's smart.

Sport has plenty of purpose, even at a lower amateur level. Fitness, camaraderie, mental wellbeing and better social skills can all be boosted by taking part in sport.

Gogledd Ddwyrain Cymru

Governments have traditionally pushed football and sports in general as a means of preventing the masses revolting. It was never just about sport, It was all about control! The Romans had bread and circuses. Victorian Britain had rational recreation. When workers won Saturday afternoons off in the 1870s, factory owners bankrolled football clubs.

Exhaust a man on the pitch on Saturday, and he won’t be on the picket line on Monday. Churches and chapels called it wholesome. The War Office used it to recruit. Post-war governments built playing fields as deliberately as they built houses. The aim was the same: occupy their time, occupy their minds.

Give people football and you control the conversation. Scores, not strikes. Rivalries, not revolution. But control is never clean. You gave the masses a ball, and they built communities around it. Halls, clubs, places to meet. You wanted obedience. You got stories, loyalty, and organisation anyway. The state wanted order. It used sport to buy it.

Rawcliffe Bridge.

I was a swimmer-diver at school, but had absolutely no interest in any other sport whatsoever, despite it being forced onto my by the authorities, television (World of Sport was on one channel ALL Saturday afternoon, and Grandstand was on BBC ALL afternoon Saturday's out of the three only television channels back then, and all 3 were very heavily sport orientated, such as test cricket during the day etc etc).

Then, when it was either commonwealth games, or Olympics, it was forced onto you then!

AND people ask why I don't pay television licence for many decades.

I do not watch television at all since well before the "plandemic" and the very few programs I used to watch, Doctor Who, Strictly Come Dancing, and the occasional movies, I really don't miss, and of course the force fed agenda that some will disagree with me!

Just to be different and for balance, I love sport watching and playing (retired participating just over a year ago).

The benefits for playing are, keeps you fit, healty and is sociable.

Watching, also leads to social interactions which are good for the soul and mind.

So there are many plus points.
