A merkin is a 15th century word for a pubic wig. It's original purpose was to conceal the fact that pubic hair had been shaved as a result of a sexual infection. What a contrast to today's idea of shaving the pubic area to give an immature look.
Have any fabbers ever used a merkin? I don't consider a sporran to be a merkin.
