Kemi Badenoch is growing into her role. She has the intelligence and charisma to appeal to Tory voters, and to the more moderate reform voters. Large swathes of the electorate have a 7-day memory, so would be possible for her to re-brand and differentiate from the perceived failures on the previous Tory government, while benefiting from any disillusionment about the current Labour government. She has plenty of time to make the Tories seem like a viable option before the next election.

Reform is the Nasty Party. I'm still optimistic that the faragite bubble will burst before the next general election. Even with PR they would fall long short of a majority based on last weeks polling and most opinion polls. Under the current FPTP system they would really struggle. Remember that 2 years ago they got 14% of the popular vote yet only gained 5 seats. The Libdems only got 12% of the popular vote yet managed 72 seats.

Plus as the old saying goes 'a week is a long time in politics' so three years could be an eon. Hopefully the traditional parties will sort themselves/their leaders out long before then and the Faragite cult will fizzle out.

She is a total waste of space, all she does is complain about labour policies that have come about because of the failure of conservatives to deal with them, ie immigration, if the Tories hadn't let so many migrants into the country in the first place then labour would have not had to clear up the mess that caused.

I’m not a supporter, but the way the two big parties keep showing themselves in the foot, I’d say right now he’s nailed on to be next PM. However 3 years is a long long time and things could (and hopefully will) change.

If there were to be a GE tomorrow then there's a fair probability of a Reform govt. However they would almost certainly have to do a deal with the Tories to actually govern. It's nearly 3 years before the next GE so whether Reform can keep their momentum is debateable. A lot will depend on who else they bring in to the party, and more importantly how they run the councils they've won. As things stand I'd say no more than a 50/50 chance. One thing's for sure though, we definitely need a change of direction going forward.

Not so sure Farage has real charisma. He is clever enough, in a cunning sort of way, to put on this carefully staged 'man of the people person' persona. Say things that go down well with people who don't give too much thought to the true implications of his ideas.

Despite doing well at last weeks elections it was hardly a landslide. Their percent tally of the vote was actually lower than it had been in the council elections the previous year. Even in the not over reliable opinion polls they are currently on 25-28% whereas a few months ago they were on 32-33%.

Does Kemi have charisma? Perhaps not a terrific amount. People seem to be warming to her a bit. Whether she survives to lead her party into the next general election remains to be seen.

Do any of the current party leaders have charisma? I think not. Sir Keir certainly doesn't. I watched both the Welsh and Scottish leaders debates prior to last week's election. Serious lack of charisma or inspiration with any of those either.

Absolutely not, most of the statistics quoted (as quoted statistics tend to) are incomplete and designed to show a movement that isn’t there. Sure loads of seats lost by labour, but councils? Nope Nige only gained 2, although this was a lot of councils being voted for it wasn’t all, and it is not good to extrapolate… unless like Nige you want to make it look like something it isn’t.

A lot of us see Plaid as Labour by another name with a bit of fanatical nationalism thrown in for good measure. I am prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt. Theirs will be a minority government. They can pretty well rely on the support of the 2 Green SMs and that crazy Libdem woman but even that won't give them a majority.

Still not convinced an independent Wales is viable. Hardly straight cut on the border with villages and towns divided between the two nations and roads weaving in and out. Not sure it would be economically viable either unless they exchanged the 'Westminster yoke' for the 'Brussels yoke'. Also North Wales and South Wales seem like two different countries.

What I am finding a little strange is reform for good or bad got voted in with the people on all sides knowing what they where voting for,

That is as we know is democracy wether a protest vote or not.

What I’m finding hard to equate is the parties that have now been stripped of their overall majorities are saying they will not engage with reform , that to me is ignoring a clearly disenfranchised part of many communities and their vote .

This I see will not side line the reform voters but just show them that the main parties are not listening to their points of veiw

The people voting reform believe they are, as do many of the people voting green believe that is the answer. The traditional big two have almost disenfranchised a huge swathe of the public and all reform and the greens have done is fill the gaping chasm that has been left by the two main parties having no real ideas and just expecting people to vote for them whatever happens.

Whilst I can appreciate peoples frustration at the failures of the established parties I don't see Reform as the answer. More of a mid-term protest vote. Even at council level they were playing the immigration tune just to appeal to concerned voters even though councils have no say in the matter. Their fiscal and economic policies are fanciful and ill-thought-out. Even worse that the Truss/Kwartang ones. Plus could the Nigel really handle the job of PM? He'd love the glory but not the work it involves. Other than swanning round the country [world even] making rabble-rousing speeches he is pretty bone-idle as a politician. Poor attendance and voting record in both the EU and UK parliaments. He's a campaigner and influencer rather than a serious working politician

"Well done Reform, people have had enough of the other useless corrupt parties.

Nigel for prime minister.

The hard left and skiving from home mob will be having a meltdown."

Nigel's in no position to moralise on WFH! Fuck's sake, he has no work ethic. His schtick is to get a cosy job like an MEP for £ 70K a year, toss it off like a champ, but earn his dosh moonlighting on other jobs like talking shit in the media.

He's never done a proper job.

His ambition is to arsehole his way into the Trumpish billionnaire's set and it's clear he'd sell the UK into feality to the US and is supported financially by foreign interests with the same ambitions.

If he gets elected and some hairy arse US company starts fracking in Downham Market it'll serve you right.

Maybe want to check your Tony Blair facts on that one."

The Blair/Brown years net migration including British citizens was 2.8 million.

The Cameron - Sunak years net migration was 4.8 million.

Under Starmer, net migration to June 2025 (latest figures) was 204,000. Before 2004 it was lower but since 2004 only Cameron in 2012 had a lower net migration figure. Excluding the Covid year when few people were travelling or moving.

Nope being PM will put a stop to his side grifts and will mean him actually doing his day job rather than swanning around after the mango mussolini or playing the victim. And if he did he wouldn't do half the things he'd promise say for example immigration as that's his whole reason for being without it he is nothing but a pub bore playing the victim.

I reckon if the odious Farage ever did become prime minister then people would be baying for his resignation within twelve months. Far more than they are currently baying for Starmer to go. Farage is all talk and no do. Says what people want to hear but would have no idea of how to implement his 'wonderful' ideas.

Surely, if Labour can consider replacing Starmer then a future a Reform could choose to replace Farage?

So the quickest way to get rid of Farage is to get him elected!

Yep, for one he's not tainted by too close an association with the current cabinet. He seems to be popular in his mayoralty and seen as someone who gets shit done. He's (as far as I know) dodged banana skins like Rayner-taxes/Miliband-bacon etc.

I was talking about him to an Uber driver today (Afghan, twenty years UK resident) and he liked Manchester man too so he may even cross ethnic lines.

the Left is dead it's just virtue signalling at this point and this last stint with Starmer will be the nail in the coffin for a very long time

A lot on the Left are virtue signalling how much they are not "racist" and how much they are not "Fascist" by accusing Farage of everything they're not

Me thinks they doth protest too much

I'm voting Reform but whether the opposition and bigotry Reform will face to make the necessary changes to reverse mass immigration remains to be seen
