"Nice one Chubbsy."

If they show up in that group as a second team, they'll likely face Holland, which takes us back to the 1978 World Cup. Scotland had such an amazing team back then with Jo Jordan and Archie Gemmill.

By all accounts we had an even better team in 1974. Glorious failure then as well. Billy Bremner's painful stab at goal.

Any other manager besides Southgate would have clinched the title with the amazing players he had, but he kept them on the bench. He only brought them in during the last 4 or 5 minutes of the game, and they managed to win by small margins. The style of football they played was incredibly dull, making it easy to doze off in between plays. In a tournament like this, finishing second is a solid achievement, but it doesn't really count as a title, and honestly, no one keeps talking about who came in second in the World Cup. Sometimes it's just luck based on the group you end up in, so it wasn't solely Southgate's doing that got them to the final; it was also the individual brilliance of the players and some fortunate draws. For instance, Germany has been the runner-up at the FIFA World Cup four times, but nobody talks about that; everyone just remembers them as four-time World Cup champions. That's the reality, and no one even asked Southgate to manage a team after he left.

Looks like it could be a washout.

I've seen some detailed analysis on YouTube.

Hhotel groups in many of the US host cities are reporting booking are running at either similar to, or below 2025 levels.

Part of that has to be due to the extortionate room rates they've been advertising. For example, in Seattle, 200 to 300 dollar rooms at $1,500. The normally free (for ticket holders) stadium carpark will be closed, and day tickets for nearby carparks set at $200.

Buses from the airport to the stadium charging $150 or more for a trip that normally costs $12.

A FIFA sponsored website is advertising tickets at as much as $6000 for the semi-finals. In Quatar the eqivalent tickets were set at arpund £200 to £300.

Im checking out the situation in Canada and Mexico, but it looks like neither country is aiming to exploit fans like US cities hotels and transport are.

How about the people who came to London for the Olympic Games? Did you know that during the London Olympic Games, hotel prices generally increase by 100 percent to 300 percent compared to regular rates? Four-star and five-star hotels in Central London often impose significant surcharges, with average nightly rates easily surpassing $400 to $1,000, depending on their distance from the Games. Consider the prices for the Premier League and Champions League; what do you think about that? Attempt to purchase a ticket for the Liverpool match against Manchester City / Arsenal / Manunited / Cup finals ; see if you can find one initially. If you wish to express criticism, you should direct your accusations towards FIFA, as they are the ones manipulating ticket prices, not the USA. There are no genuine football fans left anymore; most true fans are now watching football from home.

In a galaxy far far away

There's lots of new rules for this one. To get rid of time wasting and faking injury.

If the referee feels a player is deliberately taking too long on a throw-in or goal kick, they will instigate a five-second countdown, at the end of which the team will be penalized.

The ref will raise their hand to begin the countdown. If the ball isn't in play by the time that is over, then possession will be reversed. If it's a throw-in then another throw-in will be awarded to the opponents; if it's a goal kick then a corner will be awarded to the opponents.

If a player is injured they get taken off immediately and cannot come back on until at least a minute. No wasting time sat on the pitch.

No player is allowed to cover their mouth when speaking. If they do they could get a booking. I think this is in response to racism allegations.

Fab.. VAR will now be able to intervene for wrongly-awarded second yellow cards, mistaken identity incidents and incorrectly-awarded corner kicks.

Southgate won more knockout games than all the other managers added together

Any trophies to show for it though?

I thought not.

60 years and counting.

Fair enough but closer with Southgate , personally I wish he had not left but you never the new guy might do it ,,

As an Australian now living in the UK I hope that England’s Men never win another major trophy and are eliminated from the 2026 FIFA World Cup at the first possible opportunity.

I suppose you weren't happy arsenal winning the premiership?

Maeda put Celtic 2-1 up in the 87th minute. At the 90th minute the ref added a further 8mins Plenty of time for Hearts to find an equaliser.....they couldn't. Osmond added another for the champs.

Bit like our final match of the season 2-1 up against Chelsea we are sitting 7th in the league European qualification in our mist cruising not much in the way of injury time can surely be added on there has been nowt to suggest otherwise NOWT

But wait we are playing Chelsea and we are Sunderland a team that can’t possibly be allowed to play in Europe not if it means we take Chelsea’s place so what can the officials do 🤔

Oh they will add on 10 mins extra time and hope Chelsea score a equaliser 10 mins to try and score a equaliser surely they can do it……

They couldn’t the atmosphere got to them so we little old Sunderland from the North East gained European qualification

Bloody brilliant 😁

I'm looking forward to the World Cup but not as much as previous ones, I just think there's too many teams. At least a third of the 48 will be complete rubbish and whilst we're guaranteed a few shocks, as always, there'll be too many easy games.

As others have said, England's group is far from easy and Scotland have a decent chance of getting to the next stage.

I reckon the tournament will be quite open and I've no idea who will win.

Totally agree...I mean it's nice for the teams to get a chance to be in the world cup but yes, too many lower quality teams....the whole competition should be 4 weeks max

Also in the round after the groups....am I right in saying some group winners play a group runner up...others play a 3rd place team and there's 8 3rd place teams going through? Seems a lot of 3rd placers going through.

Is there going to be as much risk of a top team going out in the groups..less excitement?

Have other world cups been like that?

It's only really in the Premier league, and Arsenal in particular, that the 'dark arts' are practised at corners. I've watched many games at lower level and there are no problems whatsoever.

It the never ended post analysis of why we can’t ever produce a team to win when the arguments are so obvious that we don’t invest in UK talent, all the teams want to do is to buy there way to the top. You can’t have you cake and eat it..

But it will go on and on shredding every poor decision to the inane degree eating up hours of TV coverage throughout the day.

Give it time it’s only the first game let’s just see how England get on because it’s not like we are the most exciting team to watch in fact its like watching paint dry at times so so negative

I agree.

Although the heat over there in the states plays a factor, it was 30 degrees at a match yesterday so its hard to maintain.

Agree it’s not easy for them like so playing all out attack isn’t going to happen all match it’s about picking the right moments and obviously capitalising on the opposition’s mistakes

Get the ball in the box as soon as you can I hate all this passing back and forth shite hoping to walk it in

A good whipped cross into the box is always a nightmare for defenders and goalkeepers especially if it’s got pace to it

North London (outer)

I'm looking forward to watching Norway, we all know what Haaland's like when he gets a sniff at goal.
