It's a very fluid party ranging from Blairism to Corbynism. Managed to secure an enormous majority at the last election so we look set to have them running the country for the next three years. Who knows which way they will swing in that time. Who knows who will be leading them. They could bounce back or they could face virtual annihilation.

I don't think so. Rags like the express and mail have been pushing this for a while along with wishful thinking stories about internal coups and problems not to mention leadership challenges as they want a reform government which will be to the benefit to the extremely wealthy owners. Labour despite the frankly disappointing Starmer is still one of main political voices. They just need to communicate better, go back to traditional labour values, stop the centre left/blue labour influence and stop trying to out reform reform.

Now, maybe you see immigrants as lesser human beings and are quite happy at this? Sone of us, however see this as the thing end of a very large wedge.

There could be an argument for using them (should they actually ever get built) to keep prisoners in jail, instead of releasing them increasingly early due to overcrowding. I’m sure there’s many victims of crime who would be reassured by the fact that 10 years, once again, means 10 years… as opposed to 5 or less nowadays.

This is just an option. And one that is probably more likely than rounding up the gay or bi community next

There’s an old Spanish saying; “esperanza muere al último”, that is attributed to Jesse de la Cruz. Loosely translated, it means; “hope dies last”.

Difficult to foresee what will happen. Labour were written off during the Thatcher years but then bounced back. Same with the conservatives during the Blair/Brown years. T use an Americanism Starmer is now a Lame Duck Prime Minister. Rather doubt he can bounce back and fairly certain he will be replaced before the next general election. However his successor, whether it be Burnham, Streeting or someone else, will need to be very careful. Taking the party too far to the left or too pro EU could play straight into the hands of the Faragites.

"Is the Labour party a legend on a bog wall?"

The true Labour Party is a long lost legend that was finished as a party that represented the working classes after their leader Hugh Gaitskell died. The Benn and Foot wing dragged it into fantasy economics and union militancy, and Wilson, Callaghan, and Healey spent the 1970s proving they couldn’t run the country without begging the IMF for a bailout and trying to keep their Trade Union masters pacified.

What we have today is just a degraded, hollowed-out, weakened version of the same lot — 'Blairite' in name, failing to represent the very people they coaxed into voting for them, yet still wedded to the tax-and-spend instincts that wrecked the economy every time they’ve had their hands on it.

A rather misleading statement! Boris didn’t really “tax and spend” out of choice. The massive spending surge happened because of the sudden global Covid pandemic and was totally unavoidable - any government would’ve done the same to stop the economy collapsing. The tax rises were introduced just as temporary fixes for the NHS backlog, again as a direct result of the pandemic!

"Boris used the word "spaff" a lot."

As a professional journalist, Boris is an expert wordsmith. His use of words like “spaff” comes from an elite Eton and Oxford subculture that mixes formal vocabulary with crude, schoolboy terms. That distinctive style let him build and stage manage an eccentric, “bumbling” persona and set him apart from conventional politicians. It was a double bluff:- the casual, unvarnished language made him seem disarmingly anti-establishment to some voters, while quietly signaling his privileged background to others.

Only idiots believe in partisan politics. If you support a party, rather than looking to support individual issues, you deserve what you get. Rooting for collapse is foolhardy at best! People support a political party because real change takes teamwork, not just because they’re loyal for no reason.

Big problems like inequality and corporate greed are all tied together. If you want to challenge those in power and build something fairer, you need a united movement, not just random opinions.

Saying “screw democracy” is easy if you’re already safe. When things fall apart, it’s poor and vulnerable people who get hit hardest.

It’s easy to check out and watch it burn. It’s harder, but more important, to stay involved and organise for a society that works for everyone.
