"He’s a great example of why our royal family (assuming we need one at all) should be along the European lines. " I think the King and the Prince of Wales are thinking along the same lines. The Buck Pal balcony, once full of unknown hangers on, now only occupied by those who positively contribute to the institution. Duchy of Cornwall being sold off, wouldn't be surprised Buck Pal sold off as an hotel along with the other superfluous palaces and keep Windsor Castle as the focal point of the monarchy. .

Just imagine: a makeover with lurid gold paint, and the TRUMP name above it in flashing neon lights 50ft high. It has no real historical significance compared to Windsor Castle or the Court of St. James. It would make an excellent Upoer House for government if the House of Lords were completely abolished, and relieve pressure on accommodation at the Palace of Westminster.

Actually it was bought by George III for his wife Queen Charlotte. Several monarch altered and enlarged it. Victoria made it the premier London royal residence as St James was too small and old fashioned and Kensington held too many unhappy childhood memories. After the old Palace of Westminster burnt down in 1834 William IV offered Buckingham Palace as a new home for the Houses of Parliament, but they refused.

Then again im sure they would see right through your silly comments above." =============================================== Geezo - you're such a know fuck-all. Not through ignorance, though; by choice. Because you want to be; so you can yap and bluster, unhindered by facts. And those police? They're know fuck-alls, too. Because they made the same choice as you have. So they could keep their mouths tightly shut. Close protection officers, working in an environment where their principal was mixing with people who they well knew had very dubious reputations, who were also in company with young - very young - women. But these highly experienced police officers saw nothing amiss. Absolutely nothing; just people having fun. No need to go making nuisances of themselves bothering higher authority. Because they knew that the very worst thing for them to be was A Man Who Knew Too Much. That never, ever ends well. You think they WANT to investigate what they already know? The only reason they're making a show of doing it is because it looks a lot worse if they don't.

Being ever the pedant that was the dynastic name - it was and is the Danish Royal House and Philip was born a Prince of Denmark as the Greek Royal House was a subset of the Danish Royal House. The family name however is Oldenburg as the Danish Royal House is a subset of the Schleswig Holstein Royal House which itself is a subset of the Oldenburg Royal House. And now so is the UK Royal House agnatically as Charles III is Y-Chromosomally an Oldenburg and not like George VI back to Edward VII a Wettin (and all the Saxe Coburgs in Belgium, Portugal and Bulgaria). Ironically agnatically, the Danish royal family is now technically the House of Laborde de Monpezat but will continue to describe itself as (Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-)Glücksburg because Margrethe II marked a commoner and we have given over founding new royal houses every time queens do that. As I say I join in the pedantry.

Edward VII could have carried on being of the House of Hanover after he succeeded Queen Victoria. The Portuguese royal house remained Braganza rather than Saxe-Coberg and the Russian imperial house remained Romanov even though they were technically Holstein-Gottorps after the German prince Peter III became Tsar. The Dutch royalscould have changed their name over three successive generations.

Those he may have had probably find just being associated with him toxic. They may also be shocked and disgusted by his alleged 'activities'. Mud not only sticks but it spreads. Also it seems that his past 'friends' were a pretty vile lot. I do know, from quite good authority, he wasn't popular in the navy and naval 'friends' probably tolerated him rather than form a meaningful bond. Probably gave a massive sigh of relief when he left. His daughter have disassociated themselves with him. Both his brother find him a major embarrassment and we all know Princess Anne doesn't suffer fools gladly. He's a rather sad case now with no friends and a very uncertain future.

Not so, he was requested to move and agreed to move into a slightly less grandiose mansion than Royal Lodge. We will never know how much lolly he inherited from his mother, but it will be enormous so he will certainly have no financial concerns nor will his ex. I personally doubt that he will ever be charged or brought to justice for his multitude of crimes, it’s just not how the British system works." I doubt he'll starve but however much money he has I doubt he'll be happy. "... Beatrice and Eugenie are not on the civil list i.e. an allowance from the state. And both have jobs." Beatrice is of course uniquely qualified (Goldsmith's College: History and History of Ideas)for her highly-paid and vital contribution to, er, being a recognisable face for a private equity company. Or, if you prefer, "analyst" Nice work if you can get it. Wonder how she got it? Eugenie (Fair play, Newcastle, 2:1 in the toff standard, Eng. Lit and History of Art,) has a "directorial position" with an art gallery. Hauser and Wirth, indeed, prosecuted last year for breaching sanctions on Russia. Nice work, etc.

No bitterness or jealousy at all. I wouldn't be them for a fortune. But how much of that sacred "effort" are they actually making? And how much of those "jobs" are in any way related to their abilities? Unless being an indirect descendant of Edward I constitutes an ability...
