"It’s being offered now at STI clinics - really high percentage protection for chlamydia and syphilis and higher protection from gonorrhoea than the gonorrhoea vaccine. " even higher protection when combined with the vaccine jab also. Well done OP for raising awareness of this important offering

"And dont forget to take PrEP too. Get tested regularly and take care of yourself. I take PrEP because sometimes guys fucked me bareback. Can't help it, I feel horny and want to be fucked badly." Thanks, good advice - I take Prep (event based) would encourage people to take also take doxypep

"Yep, taking doxypep here when needed, and had all the other available vaccines as well. My last visit to the clinic for my 3-month test, they told me doxypep was over 80% effective at preventing chlamydia and syphilis, so better than originally anticipated/reported." Yes in London they are saying it’s having significant Inpact

Yes they told me that too - up to 87% effective- meaning 100% effective for 87 out of 100 guys.

"I've been on it for a few months now. Offered at my last health check and would have been daft not to take that up" Can anyone clear something up for me please? It is often listed as treatment for Chlamydia, ( like on superdrug online) is this the same medication? Also when people say they are on it, do you mean taking it as required.….like within 24 hours of sex, as apposed to every day? Will very much appreciate any feedback. Cheers all

I do this, after initially taking it every day. You can take it every day, but it probably has an impact on your kidneys and liver over longer term.

Taking every day isnt advice given out by health practitioners. Mine at the sex clinic did explain something on the lines of 'but if you have sex again then...' I did want to ask ...but what if you have sex again and then again and then the day after that....but she looked so young and innocent 😇 I carry mine around in a locket

The advice has since been updated to cover people who like me have sex often, along the lines of CAN (not should) take twice a week.

"I have it here too just been given a month ago but my concern was it does strip your gut bacteria if used to often this was advise by my sexual nurse Had no sex at the moment due to surgery, but prep is causing me stomach problems now and burning when swallowed so off to clinic next week to see what alternatives I can have.." This was the case for me, doxy upset my gut a little, but the smallest ray of sunshine & I got sunburn..whilst recovering from surgery, clinic advised prep & doxy but such is my luck on here I think i am tipping drugs into my body unnecessarily so I stick with fab guys imposed celibacy.

This is exactly how it was explained to me when I started taking it. No need to pause the raw sex though apparently.

Get regularly tested and stay safe.as a health care professional I feel it shoukd be charged for you are responsible for your own safety thankfully it not funded around here" This debate has been done here before, and frankly this is not the response I would expect from a "healthcare professional". The NHS is free at source for everyone. Thats the whole point of it. Him using doxy is being responsible. Plus, doxy costs the NHS virtually nothing. Would we charge fat people to treat obesity related problems? No. Would we charge stupid people.who fall off ladders? No.

Plus more people using doxy and prep saves the NHS costs due to reducing overall STI’s and the cost of their treatment- that’s why the NHS is encouraging using doxy and prep.

"So is doxy prep the same (or similar) drug used to treat syphalis? Is it just preventative or will it also actually as treatment for symptomless infection? " Doxy is an antibiotic. The treatment for syphilis is usually a single dose jab of penicillin, however a 2 week course of doxy can be given instead. Doxy, in a differing dosing regimen is the standard treatment for chlamydia. Using doxypep does not prevent the spread of anything. Bacterial infection needs an incubation period in the human body. Using Doxy interrupts that incubation, meaning full infection, and its symptons, is much less likely. Remember, doxypep ONLy protects you from full infection. If you've been in sexual contact with an infected person, you can still pass on the bacteria even if you are using doxy.

I was supposed to have the Mpox jab but my arm had only just recovered so I cancelled that.

I joked about it with the nurse when attending for my 2nd jab. She laughed as heard many complain LOL

"anyone get any side effects from Doxy im about to start it as got it from my recent check up" Yes. The first few times it gave me the raging trots for weeks, to the point where I had to send off a sample to be treated for giardia, among other things. All came back negative. Seems to wipe out my gut bacteria. Luckily, a few kefir yoghurts and drinks have helped things get back to normal. But I think I'm going to have to give up on it and take the rest of the unopened box back to the clinic. It's just about useless for protecting against gonorrhoea, anyway.
