Quite daringly I've undone my top button and loosened my tie slightly, wary of what lies ahead.

Bottle of water and portable fan in hand, I'm waiting on the platform at Finchley Central for the next southbound train (via Charing Cross) to roll in.

Instant call of shenanigans due to naming two stations.

Next three trains shall be via Bank.

You caught me out there, fair play. As you decreed I'm still waiting on the platform, heading to Gloucester Rd.

No because of the zoning restriction on a tuesday, Balham is your only option.

Finished my business, on my way to Hyde Park Corner. I'm thinking of taking my tie off completely and undoing a second button on my shirt, even though there's bound to be a few disapproving tuts.

Surely " Queensway" would be more appropriate with your intended state of undress?

Not really, I fancy hiring a deckchair by The Serpentine. Later on I'll probably take a stroll to St James's Park for the Circle Line.

How come, if you are human, alighting means getting off something, but if you are an insect, alighting means getting on something?

Maybe the answer will come to by the time I alight at Chigwell.

I was involved in an incident earlier where a young chap decamped from the train at Stepney Green. I'd met up with Tubby Althrop-Parsonage at Rules in town, and after an extended and rather liquid lunch, seemed to have headed east on the Circle Line instead of west.

Somewhat confused, we were trying to find the best way to undo our folly when the chap snatched Tubby's top hat before making off at great haste. If you remember Tubby he was never fleet of foot, so I expect he'll be visiting Lock & Co. shortly for a replacement. Speaking of which, I fancy a new Panama hat myself so may accompany him.

Ah schoolboy error old chap, I once had to alight at Aldgate East much to my chagrin after a session of high links, japery and tomfoolery went sadly awry. How is Tubby by the way? Sure i saw him with Tarquin Farquahson jauntily ebbing toward the Groucho the other week..

Ah, dear Tarquers! How is the old devil? He and I were once enjoying a very fine old malt back in the day when the quimble perfunctory was still going; I’ve not seen him since. Waved him off at the platform at Aldwych (The Strand for the real old-timers) before it closed permanently.

Now of course it’s Holborn or nothing.
