North London (outer)

Pallet furniture is a thing. When I ran my own business I used to receive a lot of stuff on pallets and instead of throwing them away, I looked at a few plans online and made all kinds of garden furniture, a lot of which I gave away. The wood is already treated so won't rot, although some people do like to paint or stain it.

Totally agree. In fact, bird box is a classic scrap wood project, more than enough offcuts around so it doesn't really cost me anything. Most items are cheaper to buy than construct yourself, but making your own means it can be the exact design and dimensions you want with possibly better build quality. I also try to repair most things before replacing; people spend hundreds on a new appliance that only needs a part for £10-£40.
