I tried to order a couple of angle grinder discs on Ebay.At checkout I was informed that these are considered to be blades and I would need to confirm my age. The only way of doing this is to have a credit card - not a debit card - and I don't have a debit card because I don't do debt (what a financial fossil I am!)

I bought the discs online from Screwfix with no trouble at all.

Ebay thinks cold chisels corrupt the young, too. What other non -bladed items does Ebay refuse to sell you?

Needing age verification on what could potentially be used for nefarious purposes sounds like quite a sensible rule to me.

You can't be serious. If someone approached me with an angle grinder disc, I'd laugh.

Because being over a certain age rules out any “nefarious purposes” 🤦🏻‍♂️

Its stupid, you could do more damage to someone if you bought a pen, just ask Joe Pesci

John Wick famously killed 3 men with a pencil, they definitely need age restrictions placing on them.
