Star trek continues is interesting..

( on youtube ) fan made series.

.original star trek copied with same sounds/ music/ script ideas..i liked episode 6...

Gene Rodenberys son says it was better than the modern paramount etc series..( the big film studios tried to stop it..).

Captain Kirk looks a good lookalike, mannerisms copied well..

Scottie played by the son of the original..

The trinity of Star Trek (TOS, TNG and DS9).

Although now there’s been so many others - Battlestar (2003), Caprica, The X-Files (up to the second movie), Fringe, Firefly & Serenity, Dollhouse, Buck Rogers, Quantum Leap, Babylon 5.

Still a few streamers series not watched properly.

There used to be an American series on in the 1960’s called The Invaders. It used to scare the crap out of me as a kid. I think the aliens had a crooked little finger which identified them as infiltrators.

I assume it was part of the Communist invasion political culture that pervaded at the time - they look like us and sound like us but want to destroy us from within

The Expanse, hands down.

So glad that Amazon ran with it after it was originally cancelled by Syfy but gutted that they never filmed books 7-9 (the storylines that took place after the time jump.) even though they set up one or two threads in the final episodes.

There is, apparently a chance that it will be picked up again but I'm not holding my breath.

Start Trek has been my constant companion throughout my life when I started watching it on the Beeb in the early 70’s.. I’ve watched every episode pretty much on all of the series, for me TNG is the best, but loved and still watch Enterprise and Strange New Worlds and Picard. Even ran a few conventions in the late 90’s

But also loved Blake’s 7, some of Who, Space 1999 Captain Scarlet and Star Wars rocked my 10 year old brain in 1977.

Forbidden Planet, the rebooted Lost in Space, Buck Rodger’s and loved the Alien series of movies.

Love to chat with any guys here who also love Sci-fi

Work/Play in London, live in Kent

For me the best SciFi were Babylon 5, The Expanse, Battlestar Galactica (the re-imagining), Sense8, Firefly/Serenity and Farscape.

I know some will say Sense8 isn’t SciFi but JMS was showrunner so I think it counts.

I love the StarTrek, StarWars and Who universes but they have all been two expanded to be truely immersive. Each feels almost like an institution at this point. And each of my favourites benefit from amazing characterisation, plotting, storytelling and world building - none are perfect but each is compelling in its own way.

I am not giving up my Stargates, or my Andromeda or my Man in the High Castle or even my Mork and Mindy or my Alf. But these are my favourites.

And that scene in Sense8. Well. We all know which one I mean.

I enjoyed the adaptation of The Man in the High Castle, complimented the book unlike Foundation which I found myself shouting at even though I watched all of it 🙄. It's Asimov and you have to.

Britain did some really good science-fiction back in the day despite some times crappy special effects. Blake’s 7 should definitely be remade along with UFO, but going back even further there were series like Doomwatch, The Tomorrow People, and one of my old time favourite movies Quatermass And The Pit.

The lack of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine in this thread. Shame. Shame! 90s00s Star Trek in general, although they were very clearly running out of ideas part way into Voyager. And Enterprise had absolutely no reason to exist.

The Expanse is definitely up there. I loved the world building, even if the characters were a tad one dimensional.

I absolutely loved Andor and think it's one of the best shows period of the last few years, although the reasons I loved it had nothing to do with it being technically sci-fi, and actually it being a Star Wars worked against it. Here's a thoughtful subtle story about people struggling under the yoke of fascism, wrestling with questions about individual liberty versus security. But also because it's Star Wars, you have someone wondering around in the background in a _ish costume. But despite that, the show is incredible.

DS9 was different, due to the setting

The cross-over of charactors worked well (O'Brien, Gowron & Worf)

Sisko was bad-ass, the Captain you'd want in a dangerous situation

'Enterprise'

Why shouldn't it exist, it's a prequel/a 'scene setter'/explains some of the back-history

'Admiral Archers Beagle (surely not Porthos is referred to, in the 2009 'reboot' film

Because they'd completely run out of ideas by then and it was dull as fuck. Almost the entire show was just rehashed TNG/VOY episodes, but instead of them going 'oh no it's the Ferengi' they'd go 'oh no we don't know who these aliens with big ears are'.

Until it became 9/11 in Sppaaacceeee, but basically no show that did the whole post 9/11 Hard Men making Hard Choices shit has aged well.

When the showrunners swapped out in the last season it got a little better, mind, but it was too late.

Still stand ny 'Enterprise', due to the new frontier of it

The Vulcans were the primary aliens encountered up till them, barring Phlox

There was the opportunity for the writers to quite literally 'Go Where No-One (human) Had Gone Before

DS9; Like many, I'd love to know when 'The Sisko' returned to Jake & Cassidy

Was it years, or just seconds to them??

I've got to agree with Strange New Worlds, especially season 2 in it's entirety. 'Those Old Scientists' being one of a number of great episodes.

One show that people may not be aware of, and in my opinion is really worth checking out, is 'Missions'. Brilliant French sci-fi show!

"There used to be an American series on in the 1960’s called The Invaders. It used to scare the crap out of me as a kid. I think the aliens had a crooked little finger which identified them as infiltrators.

I assume it was part of the Communist invasion political culture that pervaded at the time - they look like us and sound like us but want to destroy us from within"

Was there an episode where the aliens trained butterflies or bees or something to kill people?

If it's that one lol..loved it as a kid...and when an alien died he glowed and disappeared?

I saw a series, 70s/80s it was quatermass with (if I recall correctly) John Mills it was 3/4 episodes over a few weeks and I really got into it. I'm not really a sci-fi fan but this was a really good programme.

Yes it was Quatermass. I remember people turning to dust. I watched it as a kid, found it frightening. You can watch it on BritBox.

The Expance is the best as far Im concerned.

Written under a single name. The authors of the 10 books in the series and novellas are actually space scientists. One works for NASA and is an expert in astral mechanics. Thebother works for JPL and works on space propultion systems.

Great story too. Read all the books. Pity they only made 7 seasons.
