Government wants to scan your phone

I've not heard of this until today...

The UK government has issued a three-month ultimatum to Apple and Google (with a September deadline) to activate or install built-in software to automatically detect and block explicit images on devices. However, the intention of this software differs slightly from general scanning:Target: The mandate is focused specifically on preventing the sharing, receiving, or taking of explicit images (such as "nudes" and "sexts") on devices used by children (under 18s).The Government Stance: Prime Minister Keir Starmer and the Home Office argue that the required scanning technology is already built into modern smartphones. Officials state the goal is not to police people's phones or collect data, but to "switch on" these safeguards to protect minors from online abuse and coercion.Ultimatum: If Apple and Google do not comply by September, the government has threatened to pass emergency laws forcing them to do so, backed by catastrophic fines and potential criminal liability for tech executives.Privacy Backlash: Privacy campaigners and civil liberties groups (such as Big Brother Watch and Signal) have strongly condemned the proposal. Critics warn this creates an "invisible surveillance infrastructure" and fear it could compromise encryption, undermine anonymity, and potentially pave the way for invasive age-verification checks for all adults.

The government is going way too far with all this BS, and they're keeping us distracted for some reason. Cheap gambling sites, alcohol, streaming services- I'm sure many, many other things keep society occupied. Keeper civilization quiet and submissive.

They can get away with blue murder, and they can get away with immigration, which people don't like, but it's happening. Because we're all submissive under ridiculous BS occupying us.

But you get the occasional few that look into the small nooks and crannies

Children must be protected and keeping standards of decency, and the law should back that up. If on-device technology can stop children being coerced into sending nudes, switch it on for child accounts. But it has to stay within the law: proper legislation, clear limits, court oversight, and no breaking encryption for adults accessing legal content. Protect children without normalising blanket scanning. Parliament should debate it openly, not by ultimatum.

I've got my own images on my phone as I've no doubt you yourself have. Cock/ ass etc. Reading this, does this mean those too would be blocked? I genuinely have no idea

Considering I can find half-a dozen shemale explicit sex sites which don't even ask for age verification, and watch them all night on my desktop without a VPN or anything else, turning my phone into a policeman would seem to be a tad pointless.

With the likes of Ebay requiring an age check if I try to buy "blades" like a diamond grinding wheel for my angle grinder - or even a thing for packing pointing mortar in - I'm convinced that this sort of thing is PC performance art and serves no useful purpose.

This act is part of the dictatorship that Starmer and his front bench have shown themselves to be. We need software apparently (which is wide open to be used to abuse the populations freedoms) but news about the PM's car being torched is subdued. It already watches and listens.. Cctv, doorbell cameras, ANPR, facial recognition.

And I'm sure youve noticed that you can have a conversation about something and 10 mins later an add on Google will show what you were talking about.

Let their parents police the kids on line activities, sick of these piss poor parents getting sympathy , action groups , petitions and law changing because they allowed young Jenny/ Jonny free unfettered access to the internet with sometimes tragic results that then mean normal well adjusted citizens have their freedoms and access restricted or monitored

It's all being done under the guise of protecting children.

If they really wanted to protect children they'd go after the high society peadophile rings, the predominantly Pakistani grooming gangs and peadophiles in general.

None of which they care about.

They are into having total control simple as that.

I’m surprised you think this is something new

GCHQ has been monitoring phones since they became mainstream!

For instance there software is set to identify key words in particular sentences

This is how terror attracts are stopped prior to them happening

Anyone who has a “smart” anything is already being monitored 24hours every single day

Smart speaker

Smart tv

Smart lightbulb

Smart phone

Etc…….. all listening and monitoring

And don’t think a tin foil hat is gonna help you!

Don’t take my word for it test it yourself

Talk about something you may need

A Washing machine big black dildo arm chair (whatever you like !)

Then log on to facebook marketplace or amazon !

The feed will full of what you were talking about !

Now that’s for sales purposes !

Think about an organisation who are doing for (apparently!)legitimate purposes!

Age verification will be required to access even your own images, that means uploading formal ID, driving licence etc. or having facial recognition decide if you are a suitable age.

I totally agree if its to protect children from adult material and sites then so be it, also to stop grooming gangs and pedophiles from exploitation of the young.

Its an evil world we've been living in since the 1970s and now technology now days its so easy for a child to be abused or worse, please be aware of some comments as im sure none of us want to see any and all younger person/children exploited or corrupted in this way..

What the government agency has said those on sites will have discression and privacy unless they break the law.

Facial recognition works on datum points around your face, i.e. shapes and sizes and so on: facial hair has no bearing in this. Masks have been thought of as the software requires movement (mouth open and close for example) Whichever way this is considered it is a heinous breach of privacy; possibly with good intentions but certainly with a deeper agenda.

There's still people making this about immigration, despite immigration figure now being at their lowest since 2012. Get over it!

Back to phones - yes it would be great to stop kids seeing or sending nudes.

But if the way that they work out who the kids are is by analysing who everyone is, then that raises other concerns.

And those guys who still want to bring immigration into it, surely you'd like every phone to require facial or other recognition so that anyone here illegally - or simply undesirable, can be locked out of modern life and communications?

"If it’s there to protect minors from the ever increasing offenders out there I can’t see a problem can you ? "

You could lock down phones, for adults and minors.

Anyone supplying an 18Plus phone for under 18 is due a fine similar mechanism to someone supplying alcohol to under 18.

Age and Id is at point of purchase

Or resale.

That massively limits the surveillance risks.

And it's cheap.

And it might actually work. A d it gives power to protect back to the parents and guardians rather than the stat

A Farraday Gage will also prohibit the RF link to the comms cell node, rendering it useless as a phone! The government needs to enforce the RF licence conditions on device useage, especially for juveniles, and force manufactuers to make child friendly mob phones incaperble of accessing adult content! Of course, if they can scan everyones phone the security people will be in heaven as a citizen privacy will effectively come to an end. The use of black market burner phones will soar! What a freaking mess!

Whilst much online stuff cannot be avoided…booking tickets, government websites etc, it would serve us all to remember that a phone/computer etc is only a tool, we operate it, it can be turned off, settings can be altered, if you allow the tool to rule then so be it, but there is an off button, notifications can be turned off, leave it at home etc etc.

Suggestions that the Government would wish to snoop on the general public's phones is nothing but paranoid nonsense.

A phone tap (or wiretap) by law enforcement or intelligence agencies requires strict legal authorisation. In the UK, this is regulated by the Investigatory Powers Act 2016. Intercepting private communications requires a warrant signed by a Secretary of State (such as the Home Secretary), or in urgent cases, a judge.

Warrants are only granted if deemed necessary and proportionate for reasons like preventing severe crime or safeguarding national security. The warrant must specify the target, the scope, and the time limit.
