Air con.

I’m parked up in a lorry park. Inside my cab, it’s absolutely roasting. I’ve just spent three hours in the main building as it’s air conditioned, but I do need to get some sleep and I’m hoping as the sun goes, the heat will lift enough to get a few hours.

Hers the thing though. A few trucks have their engines running, I expect they have their air con going. Now, once they turn it off, their engine will dissipate its heat - and the engines are below the beds.

I get it though and understand why they’re doing it. But to me, it seems somewhat crass, burning more fossil fuels to combat the high temperatures that have been exasperated by those same fuels.

Is this the future? Ever more fuels burnt to combat the effects of residuals burnt?

I feel for you. But I bet you wouldnt be without a diesel fed cab heater in the winter.

Maybe they could sort a small diesel run generator to run a cab aircon unit rather than fire up the full lorry engine.

The facilities provided for lorry drivers in the UK are pitiful compared to the continent. We all depand on goods you guys deliver It needs to improve!

It’s funny, but I don’t use the night heater in the winter. I find it dries my throat, so just go for a very thick duvet.

I don’t deny that we could do with better facilities. I hope one day they come up with electric trucks, and the infrastructure, to allow you to plug in at night and enjoy in cab air con that way.

As far back as I can remember I’ve always wanted to spend the night in a truck. I used to have a book called trucks and trucking where I used to draw the Macks, kenworths & whites etc. well I hope you manage to get some sleep 💤 👍🏼

Sad to say trucks won't need air con or heaters soon! The will be driven by Ai...

All the redundant drivers will be given £50k a year to stay home and pursue leasure activities! Yer, in your dreams...

Batteries - a battery fed by truck motion (something like an inertia powered motor) or solar panel on the truck cab roof (where the wind deflector is) would charge a battery enough to run a cab aircon unit overnight. It just takes the will to find a way.

I’ll be long retired (or dead) before this becomes a reality!
