Gogledd Ddwyrain Cymru

Once more and yet again, we find ourselves in a lunar Waxing Gibbous phase with 89% illumination heading towards a Full Moon on Monday the 29th so the time seems most opportune for another round of the time honoured, yet totally unfathomable game globally known as:-

"Mornington Crescent".

The 1952 Bullington Club Convention Rules (as amended) apply. All players are hereby requested to wear full tropical kit for the duration of the current weather extreme. Pith helmets on, sunblock deployed, existential dread optional.

All aboard chaps and chapesses as we raise the green flag, blow our whistles to set the wheels rolling once again at:-

Mornington Crescent.

With much wonder and trepidation where, oh where are we heading?

Blast and bother! I overshot my stop and ended up at Waterloo. A most inquisitive gentleman accosted me regarding my headgear, only to vanish the moment I tipped my helmet in reply!

Stewards challenge - "Upper Clappington" isn’t a valid London station name!

You might be thinking of "Upper Clapton" - An area in Hackney, East London. The nearest stations are Hackney Central or Clapton on the London Overground.

Under the 3rd Variance of the Tottenham Court Road Amendment, you can’t end on a station that shares an initial with the previous player’s borough unless it’s south of the river and named after a saint.

I'll move Pimlico which avoids the Finchley prohibition.

I'm duty bound to convey the Ruling of the Chair, received in the following missive: Under Rule 17(b):- The Honourable Chief Steward of the Mornington Crescent Hundred hereby orders that no person save for bona fide participants shall intervene in any matter of Mornington Crescent protocol. Any such intervention shall constitute an infringement of play under The Bullington Club Convention Rules 1952 (as amended), and shall render the offending party liable to immediate disqualification, forfeiture of turn, and removal from the Chamber, with reference to the Wanstead Flats Precedent, 1948.

See also: Subsection IV, Paddington Gambit; and Rule 9(a)(iii), concerning Unlawful Third-Party Gambits.

So now, onwards with play. On the theme of ampersandal advantage, I plump for Harrow and Wealdstone.

The solstices bear no jurisdiction over the Circle Line, and Nid cannot be declared without the naming of a station.

"Pah"

The interjection of "Pah" is duly noted and filed under Miscellaneous Noise, Rule 3(f).

The Steward confirms: only one station per turn stands. Euston is accepted, ordinary points only for the premature extra step, and Maida Vale follows in good order.

Mornington Crescent cannot be entered out of turn, so that play is struck from the record without prejudice. We shall all pretend it never happened, shall we?

Play resumes....

I'll offer Green Park in accordance with Hampstead Heath retro protical.

On this eve of the full moon, all is quiet the platforms are deserted at the hallowed station that lends its name to this very game, not an honourable player in sight, I wondrest wherest be they?

As I venture a move to Belsize Park, for reason of its proximity to Swiss Cottage that perfectly aligns with the Harmonic Station Convergence Theory.

The station's latitude too of (51.5462° N) curiously resonates with the perfect frequency for the unauthorised flying of drones, a tad wickedly amusing watching marksman of the London Met bringing them to order.

As per sub clause V1X in the revised 2007 rules, you will already know that this only applies on a Wednesday during the autumnal full moon, schoolboy error Im afraid so therefore West Kensington is as far as you can go.

It is my earnest duty to intervene with a missive from The Honourable Chief Steward of the Mornington Crescent Hundred, who hereby overrules your objection. Fulham Broadway is a wholly valid move. The clause to which you refer was rescinded at the Melton Mowbray Summit of 2011.

The Honourable Steward directs you to make clear the destination of your own move, and reminds you of the relevant ruling which stipulates that all participants are duty-bound to declare their station of arrival.

With that matter settled, I shall venture to Finchley Road to join fellow members of the All Gas and Gaiters Re-enactment Chapter for a dress rehearsal at 5pm sharp.
