I find most guests are polite and considerate enough to give prior notice. If someone does arrive unannounced, as happened to me recently when I wasn’t quite ready, I’m afraid I don’t answer the door.

These days we have so many ways to keep in touch, so I do think it’s a bit inconsiderate to turn up without warning and expect to be received.
