"I understand all decisions will now go through Trump for his approval " Actually, a misleading thread. If you care to review the reported facts you will discover that Trump is not replacing the VAR system, and on-pitch refereeing decisions will not be submitted to him for approval. The rumour appears to stem from a political statement made by the US President regarding Folarin Balogun’s suspension during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Trump said he called FIFA to ask for a review of the red card, which he called unfair, and FIFA later suspended the ban for a probationary period.

I was intrigued to know what VAR is and looked further into the story. Trump may have a lot to be desired, but why attempt to slur his name with blatant lies, satire or not? Indeed not everyone follows football, so a bit more context in the OP would have helped, as I'm sure you will agree.

Some of us have literacy skills others clearly lack, which, I guess is why you erroneously assume AI at play! 🙄 And I was under the impression that the genus Trollus-internetus mainly nested on Scotland's north east coast. You are hereby invited to now apply the very principle of which you have, evidently erroneously, accused me of neglecting.

Woody Ol' Boy, if I may - My above invitation stands, as does my grip on reality. It was sound enough to offer an apology above. The question, therefore, is not of my reality, but of your recollection. I shall leave readers to observe where apologies were made, and where they were not. Yours, with continued clarity. Dev.

"has a lot to be desired" indeed implies envy of its subject's wealth, power, or attributes, and that implication is supported when we note that the subject, Trump, is both rich and powerful, albeit morally bankrupt and a convicted criminal. You thereby mangled the old cliche, universally regarded as meaning the opposite of "HAS a lot to be desired", namely, viz. & to wit, "LEAVES a lot to be desired". This carries with it the required sense of lack or loss. Let us have no more argument or patronising persiflage, and let us return to the topic, for Christ's sake.

In any case, our little 'tête à tête' has already taken up too much space and has veered into hijacking this thread. My suspicion about your tenuous grip on reality is now confirmed, so no point, or interest, in any further discussion

BTW, apologising for errors doesn't usually require courage, but I agree it's usually the decent thing to apologise for recognised errors… PFFT
