I for one love going to a soulless drab corporate box, to order from a screen which never has any paper to print a receipt, then que up with all the food delivery riders to get my lukewarm reconstituted food, and then que up again because they inevitably get the order wrong, have to beg for sauce because we have to live in a minimum security prison rather than being able to trust people not to steal it all if it's not hidden behind the counter, then eat my slop surrounded by the screaming chorus of unaccompanied twelve year olds and dads who only see their kids on Sundays.

McChicken sandwich is good though.

Popeyes, if ones near. If McD's are the only choice then may as well buy a cold Rustlers burger from tesco, same temperature as a McD's burger but at least its bigger

I don't mind the coffee in McDonald's, especially at 4am in the morning. I wouldn't touch the burgers or the barge pole, far too salty for my taste. Burger king burgers all right. I prefer Schwartz Brothers in Bath. Best burger in the country.

To me Burger King tastes better because they are flame grilled, do love a Whopper every now and then, McDonald’s burgers always seem disappointing, they’re Coffee is OK but given the choice I would go for a Five Guys as the burgers are much nicer.

"Which is your favourite menu item. Original Big Mac for me but I swear it's shrunk over the years

"

Beef patties are the same size as they always were - 10 to a pound or 1.6oz each. Or 4 to a pound for the quarter pounder. However the buns HAVE shrunk. Remember the videos back in the day showing the fillings all pushed to one side of the bun so they could photograph them looking as though there was loadsa filling? Well there's no need for that anymore because the fillings overflow the buns anyway.

It seems to be a bit hit and miss with fast food outlets. It really depends on how busy they are and how good the staff are on the day.

Locally I use McDonald’s as we don’t have a Burger King nearby. I try to go at off-peak times and, generally, the service and the quality and temperature of the food are decent. However, depending on who’s on shift and during busier periods, the burgers can seem to be thrown together in a slapdash fashion and need reassembling by the customer, and the chips are often cold.

So going at the “right time” in the hope of catching a good team is a bit of a gamble, but it’s essential if you want a decent meal. I usually opt for a Big Mac meal, or at breakfast time a Double Sausage and Egg McMuffin, which is my McD’s favourite and is usually very good for both service and quality.

We also had a Tim Hortons nearby, and that was consistently poor the few times I tried it. It soon got a bad reputation and closed within a couple of years of opening.

1996 was the last Macdonald's that I had. I was on a residential course through work at Manchester university. We went out for a few drinks and ended up in McDonald's. I've not touched one since.

Burger King at Blyth services on the A1 again years ago. Dry as a bone and virtually in edible. I've been in a Macdonald's a few times since but only for coffee which is good and much cheaper than Costa or Starbucks

The Burger Kings at motorway services are quite good. Had one 'meal' in a McDonalds back when it first opened in Hereford which must be 40 years ago. It was awful so never again.

McDonald’s Quarter Pounder is their only burger patty that is cooked fresh to order rather than pre-cooked and frozen. For me, BK burgers taste nicer generally but their prices are astronomical for what you get. Especially when you consider that many of their outlets are the saddest and grimiest out there.
