"Who do you think is fictions most evil villain? I've done some research into this and I'm wondering if anyone mentions him. Ahh I see. He's not a mass murderer on the scale of Palpatine for example. But he's killed quite a few people. It's his origin story / mind set that makes him the most evil.

"Frank Booth in Blue Velvet. Dennis Hopper's portrayal is mesmerising what makes it so good is the fact true evil can live in the most ordinary of places masquerading normality behind white picket fences." Good villain, but no. To put this in perspective, Voldemort, Michael Myers and Freddy Krueger didn't even make the top 5.

"The Joker, twisted and insane but funny Joker is a good guess, I'm pleased someone mentioned him. He wants to highlight the failure of society, all it takes is one bad day and he turns mental. He's a psychopath who lacks empathy, but he's more obsessed with breaking Batman's code. But I like your thinking as far as motives are concerned. There are worse.....

"Steerpike from the Gormenghast books has a fair claim. Utterly malignant. " I instantly thought Steerpike. Not over familiar with villains from films. Other from literature that come to mind are Fernand [Count of Mote Cristo] and Dickens created quite a few: Fagin, Bill Sykes, Compeyson, Tulkinghorn to mention a few.
