Surely you want honest politics.

If the political discourse is fractured then the parties should reflect this.

I'm sure there are Communists in the UK. I've no problem with them having their own party.

Same with Islamists.

Work/Play in London, live in Kent

Rupert Lowe was on the Joe Rogan podcast in the US and was criticising the UK's ban on handguns,

He said the ban came after "there was a murder in Dunblane". Rogan followed up asking Lowe if the ban was owing to "one murder" and the Restore UK leader repeated that was the case.

Sixteen children and their teacher were killed in the 1996 mass shooting at Dunblane Primary School, which by any accounts was one of the worst gun atrocities to happen in the UK.

Lowe, who is MP for Great Yarmouth, and who fell out with £5-Nige is enjoying a time in the spotlight in the US as Elon likes him, mostly it seems as Elon has decided he is over the current Steward and Bailiff of the Manor of Northsted.

The wrinkly current MP said his poor (probably very rich) father's pistols had been taken away after the Dunblane shooting, and that society in the UK needed "radical change" and to "release the individual".

It appears his Dad’s rights to keep duelling pistols for historical reasons out pace his neighbours’ children’s rights to come home from school alive. Or the crown’s rights to maintain the King’s peace.

Old Elon has complained about knife crime in Britain. It is practically non-existent in Compton as I understand it as one never brings a knife to a gunfight.

That saying disagreeable Rupert who never met a group with whom he managed not to fall out, is a politician with opinions and he will not be shy in sharing them with us.

Some will call him a hero. Some will say he should be locked up. I will say he is a niche politician in a minor party with some objectionable policies. I very much doubt the salvation of Britain will come through a hand-gun range. That being said, he has a right both to an opinion and to express it, all the more so that the rest of us can see how out of touch with the feeling of the actual average man in the street.

So no, let’s not lock him up, let’s listen to him, and let’s think on what he says and recognise that that way Columbine High lies so let’s not go there.

A not untypical, facile remark / meaningless soundbite deployed by anyone in, or supportive of, the current extreme right agenda. I'd say it's a classic case of style over substance, but it's devoid of any style as well.

Explain your rationale, because without it, your contribution is utterly pointless.

It's likely that duelling pistols - probably made before 1939 - are muzzle-loading black powder guns, and a very reasonable case could be made for keeping them as antiques.

I see the political fuckwittery has made it to a platform mainly used by men that would be criminalised if Lowe was in power. Or Farage. Stop thinking that either of those people represent you. To the people talking about division - what is the division about? Are we arguing about the best way to rebuild the economy? How we improve our standing in the world? Or are we just talking about immigrants as usual? Could we have a discussion about agglomeration economics or BoE indemnity or any subject that really matters or do you think that you’re an expert because you don’t like brown people?

Grow up.

He was sent to a snobby, and no doubt very expensive private school, so his father was very rich.

Seriously? I know you and I don't always see eye to eye but there is more choices than Labour v Reform/Restore. I've been a life long opponent of Labour. Certainly not impressed with the current government but technically we are due to get a new government in a few weeks. I'm prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt for a few months at least. That does not mean I would ever consider voting Labour but I would certainly never consider voting for dodgy parties led by the gobshite Farage or the sinister Lowe. There are alternatives you know.

The Dunblain tragedy, as awful as it was... is a diversion! There is a bigger picture here... People on here are discussing two different things it seems. The point Rupert was possibly trying to make, is that governments tend to over react with legislation to appease public anger at a horrific act and at the same time gain more government control by removing access to weapons from the UK population! The American's of course have their constitution, which gives them the right to bear arms! But lets not open that can of worms here... this thread is already confused enough!

I agree with Lowe on relatively few of his policies .

He's currently some distance behind count binface.

But berating him for describing one incident as one murder, is nit picking a bit.

Most people would agree that the resulting ban on hand guns was an opportunist bit of oversight by the authoritarian forces in govt at best and at worst a populist bit of knee jerk politics that did absolutely nothing to make kids safer from deranged lunatics.

He's spot on that this specific legislation was poor governance.

And his other complaints about the draconian legislation being brought in to stifle dissent are clearly not without merit.

Where there is agreement from both ends of political spectrum that legislation should be rewritten and safeguards put in place to prevent it's abuse, (in ways we were assured would never happen - and clearly have), then it's time to find common cause and not simply adhere to party lines.

The Dunblane comment was both foolish, ill-thought out and nasty. Doubt many Scots will be flocking to his banner now. All I could ever say in his favour is that he comes across as being more sincere and less of an egotist than the odious Farage.I'm sticking with my fairly middle-of-the-road moderately right-of-centre political stance.
