It’s technically as stated the oldest pub, I don’t think it’s a proven fact though.

The pub has recently changed hands many times over and it’s been a while since it has been run and managed by anyone of LGBT persuasion.(as the last gay couple who ran it sold it for a considerable profit!)

The small die hard customers who are LGBT are dwindling through various reasons.

I think it’s mostly people of student age who still use it weekends in the night and the rest are people who can’t get into anywhere else late at night.

By all means if you’re in the area there’s no harm popping in, I would maybe try different times but honestly I don’t even class it as a “gay” venue anymore.

Hi, unfortunately this is a pretty crappy pub, which is a crying shame. Layout is appalling and whatever clientele go there do not represent the diversity of Bedford gay folks. It can get relatively busy at weekends but I've heard whinges about security being very homophobic - possibly not a good look for an LGBT bar - while the DJ there is possibly the worst DJ on planet Earth and instead of dance music seems to have a small selection of novelty records and 80s power ballads. Very often you'll go in for a quiet drink but the televisons in both rooms are at ear-splitting full volume and it's impossible to hear yourself think. Taking all this into account, it's staggering that anyone goes there at all, let along the dwindling gaggle of plastic teenies who seem to be there occasionally, and it's baffling how they're able to make any money at all. It's only really somewhere to go before a gig/club night round the corner at Esquire's.
