Most modern hotels do not allow easy access, it's to protect the guests and rightly so. Suggest you simply meet your guest in the lobby or the bar before heading to room. Alternatively you could ask for a duplicate keycard and leave it somewhere pre arranged. Ive entertained guests before in my hotel room without any problems by meeting them in the bar.

Closer to the city centre although more expensive Crowne Plaza has easy access.

The Apollo is probably your best bet, you can access the rooms from the car park without going near the reception.

It’s around a mile out of the city on the Hagley Road.

A few months ago I met someone in The Radisson Blue Hotel next door to the Holiday Inn. He gave me his room number and I was able to walk straight in and up in the lift to his room with no problems.
