I’ve received both, many times over the years. I’ve found that a high quality cane, administered by an expert, hurts more than a birch. Cane marks are longer lasting too, due to the heavier bruising.

I do love the birch I always felt it was the ultimate probably as it used to be for dealing with offenders but when I got it I didn’t think it was as painful as the cane and as others have said the marks are more widespread but fade quicker than the deep marks left by the cane….but happy with both…please x

A great deal depends on the experience and expertise the man giving out the punishment. In experienced hands both the cane an birch can be effective, however if I had a choice I would go for the birch. Although of course that’s not my choice and entirely the choice of the Boss.

Tawse is pretty good although decent ones are best.

Also the user needs to practice abit to get the swing right when applying to a recipient bent over a chair, bench or whatever because a poor swing makes them fold or flutter in flight and with multi finger tawse they do not apply right and potentially inflict some nasty damage and that's not their purpose.

For the novice the recipient is best lying down so the tawse can be delivered in a straight and flat delivery from off the shoulder (great starter technique).

I have various ones light , medium and heavy.

Flat single, two, three, tails, flat wide strops

Applied right they give a nice even sting and multiple tails leave a few nice marks for a day or so depending on the receivers threshold.

I'd like to know how they compare. How each one feels when being struck, difference in type and intensity of pain, and how long the pain lasts. Also, does birching leave any marks?
