At a time when gay bars,pubs, clubs and saunas were very few and far between where they existed at all, cottages were the only option to meet like minded guys for anonymous, no strings attached sex. Yes they weren't salubrious and often risky but they were of their time and a lot of fun to be had provided you kept looking over your shoulder and I miss them from the 70s and 80s.
