Hi,

Just wondering would people think of vaping as smoking?

I was thinking about this when reading profiles.

It's worse.

Inhaling the smoke from a burning leaf can't be good for you, but inhaling burnt antifreeze is off the scale

Stick to the tobacco

And, yes, I know it's been tested as "food safe" but that's the liquid. Not the smoke, and it is smoke, not vapour. You are burning it on a red hot wire. It's burnt.

It will be a hideous death for millions.

See I think vaping is a good aid to quit smoking. I also think that vaping is not researched enough to understand the full extent of the damage. When I'm going to meet a guy normally I would vape during the day leading up to the meet as I think it's a better smell than tobacco however if I'm meeting a smoker it doesn't make much difference.

Offshore now, ignore pistcode

The vaping objects are very unsustainable. Get rid of single-use vapes.

The smell of vaping is probably a little less offensive to most people compared to cigarettes.

But , they lose on pretty much every other aspect. It's not even a case that we need more research anymore on vaping, it's more so that enough time hasn't elapsed yet for us to see how truely devastating they are. We already know they are terrible.

They're worse for the environment than a cigarette butt and they're generally not recycled.

The whole "popcorn lung" thing and other side effects - more data is being collected every year.

It's a terrible way to "give up smoking" because you generally increase how much nicotine you intake and you don't actually break the habit of putting something in your mouth, holding it in your fingers, craving the smell.

It's about as effective as telling an alcoholic to swop out the whiskey for beer. The logic is nonsensical. Even if it was non-alcoholic beer, the smell, the taste, the feeling of holding it to your lips, the smell and atmosphere of the pub/bar - all these things are what you have to change to beat an addiction.

I was a smoker myself. I gave it up cold turkey. I had a 14 hr flight and when I landed at the middle leg of the journey I decided to continue ignoring the cravings because I already had them for so many hours. I hated feeling like I had little power over my actions- my brain telling me to get the chemical hit from a cigarette.

The secret is, you have to want to quit too .....

I remember watching one of those movies as a kid about smoking - how the tobacco industry convinced people that it was healthy. Military soldiers were encouraged to smoke because it broke up the boredom and made them feel less hungry.

How silly is to think we fell for such lies and then decades later, vapes come out and we are swallowing the same nonsense all over again.

I saw some clips on YouTube from the late 70s, early 80s when drink diving laws and seatbelt laws were being enforced. What seems like common sense today, apparently met huge backlash from the public. The clips are funny but also quite scary
