Me personally I call it a house coat. What do you all think?

When I was growing up (1960s, Birmingham) it was always a "dressing gown". House coat I think came with the advent if US yb programmes. Bath robe owes more to the rise of spa culture.

I think of a house coat as a cotton coat, like a smarter removal men's coat back in the day. Tended to be worn by housewives. A dressing gown is a gown you put on in the house before or after dressing.

All 3 are different things.

Bathrobe - towelling material used after a shower or bath.

Dressing gown- softer material maybe even something like silk, typically worn with pyjamas - think The Snowman, or Noel Coward.

Housecoat - A sort of bodywarmer/jacket/coat type thing with lots of pockets, worn indoors by housewives (often in hair curlers) - Think Mrs Overall in Acorn Antiques.

The three terms are not interchangeable.
