I hear you. Getting the motivation at this time of year is hard. Running in the dark is no fun and a treadmill is boring.

I’m in the same place. Mojo has totally gone after last marathon

Near Lanchester, Durham.

I had a ten year break from running. Starting again in my 60s was much harder than I expected.

Set yourself very small goals.

Be patient and give yourself time.

I have run a lot more than anything else over the last year it can be hard to keep the motivation up if you arent running to achieve anything at all even if thats just a faster time

I've set some goals for next year. I did love how slim i got at my peak of running previously. Hopefully can regain that

The goal setting is a good start, but don't set goals based on how you used to run, set them based on where you are now as a runner. Getting back to running 3 x 5k per week at whatever pace feels comfortable is a big achievement

If possible, I recommend including a local parkrun into your weekly runs, they are a great way to track your progress without the stress of having to register and use a race number.

Run about 30-40km a week over about 3-4 sessions; sometimes includes half marathon distances.

Great for fitness and mental health as helps clear my head so much

During the summer I was running about once or twice a week as part of my fitness regime. Hard to run outside in winter. I now tend to use the cross trainer or go to spin classes.

Used to do ultra mountain running, unsupported, so always heavy back pack. Alas broke shoulder tendon doing fan dance so can only run without kit now. Bugger. Prefer Winter running/ tabbing, when the winds n snow n rain trespassing the hills

If there's anyone near me who wants to start up running again, seriously, there could also be added benefits!

I run about 3 times a week, usually about 5k, but did my back in about two weeks ago. No exercise and a kilo of chocolates later means I feel a right fat lad after Christmas. I got out for a run today but it was a struggle.

Good luck on your targets. I got back into it these last two years, and you've reminded me to rejoin my bouldering gym.

I started with hillwalking, parkruns, then routes and races I enjoyed before. Bigger targets set only after that.

It is harder, but now I'm fitter.

Yeah I have ran for years, almost as addictive as this site for me. I particularly enjoy hill running

I began running in 1981 with the aim of running the 82 London Marathon. 44 years later I am still running. It keeps me fit and I get many lovely comments on Fab about my legs and bum. All down to running.

Know what you mean about losing mojo, have done 4 marathons all in my 50s but now struggle with motivation. Really want to get back into the discipline of running regularly so once the Christmas and New Year holidays are over, will try again.

Was once told that the hardest thing for a runner to do is tie up the laces of their running shoes….absolutely true

Sadly I'm too far away to run with you. I started running last July August. I took part in my first ever 10k in Oswestry at 62 years old.

It's nice to get out and about.

You could try a local park run on a Saturday morning.

Loved my years doing them, in all weather's, needing navigation, some were over several days and nights..

Do runners run commando?

I see quite a lot of cock flopping about in shorts.

So good to hear so many of you running. I tore my calf badly at the start of last year, haven't managed to get my arse back into gear. Had back to back colds recently, but reading this thread has got my head back in the right place. Need to get back out (albeit gently), no-one else can do it for me
