"I believe it is developed by search and rescue company They split the entire globe up into 3fr x 3 ft (maybe bigger?) grids So each grid has a specific reference Which can be indexed by its three word tag As eircode a are building specific This is the whole globe So if you stand in your garden your in one what3word zone Walk 6ft and you’re in another zone Very accurate system All very good if you’re on the same app Sadly it doesn’t seem to work/integrate with google maps" its not much good then if it doesnt work with google maps is it? Do search and rescue currently use it in ireland ? Is it commonly used, how does one use it please

" Is it commonly used, how does one use it please " I'm not in Ireland, but in England, when you are at your desired location, you open the app and centre the map, it gives you 3 words, which are a reference to the exact spot you are in, accurate to 3 metres. You can give these 3 words (just more memorable than a string of grid reference numbers) to someone else to tell them where you are. They would then open the app, and tap in the words to draw the map up to show where you are. Here in England, you can navigate to that spot using Google maps (the W3W app will open Google maps and direct you there) so the person can drive/walk/cycle whatever to your exact spot showing up on Google maps. If Google maps doesn't work in Ireland, the W3W will show where you are on its map and you can zoom in and out to work out where they are in your head.

"Has anybody tried the What3Words app? Could be incredibly useful for cruising. You just share your location by generating a 3-word phrase." Refrain from posting W3W locations in the forum as this is not permitted and they will be removed.

Probably not a good idea but as it uses three random words, I don’t think it can be detected anyway.

"It does. In the What3Words app you hit the 'navigate' button and it opens in your default navigation app (GoogleMaps, Maps.me etc)." Yes it’s simple enough to use really.
