Depends what u like of course...but walking distance to yumbo for night life means playa del ingles really. Meloneras is nice though with the nicer (more expensive) hotels

Lots of gay guys go to Gran Canaria specifically to escape Northern European Christmas, so it's usual GC set-up, beach on Christmas day if weather permits. They do fireworks for New Year's Eve I think.
