Yeh, the stigma behind hiv is still quite bad but I would expect it to be worse on here because most of the guys are a bit clueless about stis in general.

I was clueless myself at one point. I did a survey as part of one of the Australian universities. How ironic and funny would it have been if it was Sydney university but it wasn't sadly.

Anyway, it's a 10 year survey so I will do it again in the 2030s to see if my opinions have changed. Basically the survey was to understand peoples knowledge of hiv, U=U. Specifically men who have sex with men.

Would they have sex if a man had hiv but was undetectable. If they were taking prep. Would the bareback or use condoms. Do they trust that they are u=I..... All that jazz

I answered it honestly and at the time, I was new to sex with men, new to taking prep and just casual sex in general. My knowledge of hiv was very much lacking still (as well as my trust in prep) and I would best describe it as a straight persons knowledge of hiv. I was quite ignorant to the medical advances. It's only been 3 years since I did that study and my opinions have completely flipped as has my general knowledge on the topic.

It all a work in progress - the whole destigmatization of hiv. Around the same time I met a young Asian guy for coffee. He told me he was hiv+. He was 25. He got it from one instance of sex, which is quite rare, when he was about 18.

I told him that it was too hard to me at that time to have fun with him , knowing he had hiv. I still feel bad about it tbh but at the time I didn't have the tools or knowledge to really get it.

He tells every guy that he meets that he has hiv which must be very difficult.
