Much depends on the belt. Some of the cheaper ones have very small clasps and it's difficult to get enough material in to make sure it holds. I always wear holdups with suspenders, they stop the belt dragging down so much, but I'm very choosy about the fastenings. It's largely a process of trial and error, I've bought several that were useless. I usually hang them up in a tree at a local cruising spot, they dissappear very quickly
