I know it’s closed this week, however from time to time when I drive up and down. I often see delivery vans parked up (Sainsbury’s/Asda etc)

I always wonder if they know what goes on up there.

Are they waiting because they know? Or are they innocently just parked to have a cig or piss stop.

Does anyone else wonder the same?

Stones Bank Road does vere off the main layby towards Belmont and some action does take place along that stretch of road too. Particularly the first part up to where it drops down and crosses the river.

Thank you, that's very helpful. I've always used the main areas but there's always cars on the minor road, so I had my suspicions. It does seem quite a discrete area off towards the left.

Has anyone actually been here or is it all just fantasy, from my experience people mostly sit in cars and do nothing and activity in woods isn't exactly wall to wall but can be good. Also there 2 places the stones bank road layby with drystone wall parallel to A666. Also a dirt laybe on stones bank road that goes towards Belmont. You walk down a hill into bushes and woods with lots of paths and men in the trees if your lucky. No one mentioned people have had their tyres punctured or the police vans that pop in from time to time.

I stopped by very briefly on my way home from work last night about 5 ish - the lay bys were very quiet with only one or two cars, but the unmade lay bys round the corner on the road to Belmont were absolutely packed. Sometimes that getting out the car and chatting to a guy and being honest why you are both there even if there is no attraction.action between you is priceless for us more reserved chaps.

I have never come across anything like that there, once had a few guys once make out they were interested in playing but then just drove off shouting you dirty old pervert, which I couldn't argue with considering why I was there.

Only ever seen the police on one occasion and they just drive through slowly having a look, probably as concerned over the guys there as well as showing face if there have been any local complaints. As long as people play nice and keep it out of sight I don't think there is much of an issue, but bent over the bonnet of the car taking a pounding for everyone to see if they drove past is asking for trouble.

Thinking back on it, they did drive past me very slowly initially. I was aware that there were two cars approching for behind but it was dark so all I saw were the headlights. It was only as they passed that I realised they were police cars. And then it was only after they drove to the end of the layby and turned around that they stopped and spoke to someone in a car in front of me, on the opposite side.

Maybe you are both right, perhaps they were just having a quick friendly word, making people aware of the dangers. I'd like to think so. I can't help wondering, why two police cars though, if that was the case.

There’s actually quite a bit going on. Problems with fly tipping, illegal off roading, there’s a PSPO against bbq’s and campfires (that’s why you’ll see the fire service up there too) and presumably a bit of drug dealing. Nothing major but all stuff they’re obliged to look out for.
