We are going in a few weeks and can't make our minds up which to visit

Thanks

Visit both but remember you will need cash for entry to Aqua but W3 will take cash or card.

In general I prefer W3. As with all saunas, and visitors, it depends what youre looking for though. As much as I might enjoy the play, I fo actually enjoy the facilities as well!

Acqua has a belting hot tub, proper jacuzzi that works and can fit loads in (8? 10?) The one at W3 is small (4) and rarely switched on to anything higher than a fart would produce. W3 gets a bonus point though because its outside

The steam room at w3 is pretty shit, not much more than a foggy puddle. Acqua's is fully working once its warmed up (probably an hour after opening)

Acqua gets a bonus point for free brews and the communal cafe area is smack bang on a walkway between the wet area and play rooms. It's is kinda tucked away and you wouldn't pass it unless using it.

Sauna in both is decent and adequate, but Acqua probably edges it as there's a darker area to it too, as although small, its split in 2

W3 pulls away from Acqua (to me) with the play areas though. The whole building is on 3 levels so plenty to walk round, plenty of different areas. The glory hole's (6 i think) are in a busy area so not long to wait for a visitor. At Acqua they're at the end of the very short walk round.

Both are a little scruffy, but w3 seems cleaner, and the scruffiness doesn't extend to just purely undecorated areas.

If youre a smoker, w3 has a decent enclosed outdoor area around the hot tub, at Acqua its a narrow passageway that's neither inside nor outside. It's cold, breezy and fagash under bare feet isn't sexy. That said, I kinda enjoy standing there bollocking naked knowing that someone outside could see me if they really tried 🤣

The crowd at W3 seems a little more varied too, a lot of older regulars at Acqua - not for me but obviously will appeal to others. Im quite chatty usually, and have always had conversation at w3, but less so at acqua. All that said, it think acqua possibly benefits from one off tourist visitors more - but its hit and miss really

Hope that helps

Acqua’s had new owners a couple of years now and you can see the difference – new 3rd floor of play areas, free tea/coffee, open till 6am on weekends, and cash or card is fine. Discounts are on their website and T-girls are welcome. And let’s be real – people mention things like steam rooms not hot enough or a corner looking a bit worn, but that can happen in any sauna when loads of people are in and out. It’s just part of the scene and has to be put in perspective. Blackpool’s big enough for two, so best thing is try both and see which one suits you.

Forgot to add the bit about some new play rooms on my 'review'. Haven't been since it was done though so cant offer any thoughts

Fully agree. We're all looking for different things. If we just wanted clean n shiny, we'd all be at Basement 😀

I would never describe basement as clean and shiny either.

Northwich is definitely the best in the UK.

I've not found better so far anyway.

W3 is there for at least 5 more years.

The owner is negotiating a new venue with the council so there will still be W3.

Couldn’t agree more between glory holes, a maze private cubicles a wonderful sling area and a massive cinema. Acqua has more going on downstairs than W3 has in the whole place.

"Northwich is definitely the best in the UK" - I used to think so, but (IMO) it's gone downhill since the last change in ownership: they seem to have taken their 'eye off the ball' in several aspects 😕

UK saunas 'should' be benchmarking those in Hamburg and Berlin

Can you explain why you think this and which sauna is better in the U.K. In my opinion only Greenhouse Darlington comes close but must admit I haven’t been to them all

Well, I'm happy to admit that I haven’t visited all UK saunas (yet… and unlikely to 😉).

I liked the previous owners of Northwich: their work ethic, exceptional customer service, attention to detail, standards of cleanliness, not to mention opening hours and better (IMO) food and events set them apart from others. Some of our continental cousins blow the UK saunas (that I've visited) out of the water

Forgot to add the odd name change (back?) to Sauna Sauna and the confusing/unreliable opening hours (e.g. closing for events) as more reasons for my disappointment at the change of ownership but, hey, it's not there to please everybody.

I would now prefer a trip to either/both Blackpool saunas
