Aberdeen

The only way it can improve or carry on is if more people use its facilities, often when I go in the afternoon there is very few men there.

Not the first time being there for half an hour and no one there apart from the guy at the reception.

If this place closes the nearest place for guys from North of Dundee will be Edinburgh which has 2 or 3 clubs and several bars for gay , bi etc.

In Aberdeen I only know of one gay bar and nightclub with no knowledge of any other places to meet new people or feel comfortable to approach a guy.

There could be other places for all I know.

The best thing for clubs is the fact that if you can't accommodate it is a good safe place to meet.

It is a case of use it or lose it.

If the place is advertised outside its website or fb page it might get the wrong sort of people there.

It needs to be advertised through gay , bi and other group chat and meet apps as well as at other types of media but the hardiest thing is being discrete but yet popular.

Maybe the club should ask the Edinburgh and Glasgow clubs how they manage to keep busy.

What is the club like at evenings or weekends, does many folk attend then and what are the best days or nights to attend.

For older guys daytime is probably better as the fear of walking up a dark street at night is not there and you can always tell your wife you are just away to the shops or the pub.

So use this club or lose it as I say the more that go the better it will get.

Remember heating and lighting costs along with other regular costs have to be paid or it will fold.

People pay good money to go here. When the steam room isn't working and they've said they've no intention of fixing it people shouldn't be paying for the use of all the facilities. People are saying the sauna thermostat has been turned down and that it's cold walking around the place. The porn downstairs isn't working and they've said nobody to have fun upstairs despite the staff doing so. So it's a 2 way street. Business need to encourage folk to go by providing the facilities they actually say they do and that way folk might go. When folk ask questions on forums nobody from the staff replies but they creep your profile instead. You say folk should use it or lose it but as I've said there needs to be a reason to use it and this place is not providing any reason to.

Was here Sat afternoon, good fun , approx 10 guys in, Sauna was fine, granted steam room inoperative but hey the cost of runnning that must be crazy in the current climate , lol.. All facilities were spotless and tidy , staff very professional and polite.

Unfortunately, I think that saunas that fail to maintain/enhance their facilities or try and cater to all people are on a hiding to nothing. I suspect that even places like Northwich are struggling: according to some posts in the forum (if they can be believed?) it wasn't that busy on their FREE ENTRY day!

Contrary to others opinions I went Yesterday ( Tuesday open 10/5 ) at first I thought it was just going to be me and the guy who was so up himself

However patience paid off and from 12.30 till I left 2 hrs later there were 7 very fit and horny guys

Who didn’t hold back and it ended up a messy session in the dark room

And unlike “ Mr Tan “ didn’t let age or size bother them

I hope that’s the start of Bachuss being busy again

And that the trolls give it a rest now

People talking about trolls and keyboard warriors, etc. are failing to see the merits of honest feedback The owners, or those representing them, have posted on Fabguys and presumably would not expect universal praise. Saunas in this country, IMO, are poor cousins to their European counterparts, for example. They seem to me more focussed on providing good service and facilities, without trying to satisfy multiple customer bases. I'd like saunas in this country to be benchmarking other SUCCESSFUL businesses, rather than pursuing dead end ideas and ultimately failing in their efforts.

Brisbane currently

The fact this place has had numerous owners and name changes suggests that it's simply not a viable business model for Dundee's small gay scene. Having to cater for swingers and 'mixed' clientele should be an obvious sign the numbers just aren't there. Added to this the fact they can't afford to heat the place, or repair broken facilities, or splash out on fixing the tvs and it's not 'having it out for it' it's just basic customer expectations being ignored. What exactly are people paying for? I expect the owners will be cutting their losses or palming to off onto the next poor sucker soon enough...

You wouldn't pay for a hotel room and expect the telly not to work, the shower to be cold and the toilet not to flush though would you?

If the facilities are lacking, the clientele will be lacking. Basic rule in business is you have to speculate to accumulate. Seems like Bacchus is doing neither when basic repairs are going undone and daily occupancy is in single figures.

This is a fair point. But let’s be honest. If someone can wander around a damp wet forest , with their arse in the air for all and sundry to fuck, it’s obvious they really don’t care about the risks of getting caught. So, you’d think with a Little bit of understanding, if they started going to Bacchus , where , in theory it’s a safe place to get up to anything they wanted without fear of getting caught ( or pine needles stuck up their arse) They would take it. This In turn , you would think , would up the numbers / money generated Therefore more investment.

But that’s far from the case.

Broken equipment that never gets replaced is never a good sign, but again, there are many who don’t bother about such trivial things. All they’d really need is a room with four walls. Lol

Will anything less than the accidental release of viagra into Dundees water supply give the numbers a boost?

FWIW I agree it's safer and more comfortable than hanging out in the woods. The price is reasonable and it is closer to lots of places than the alternatives. More people should use it and it would be even better.

Most people, I suggest, are not interested in paying money for a product/service in the hope that their patronage will result in an improvement. They'd be more interested in paying for an excellent product that attracts them in the first place: provide a good product/service that enough people want/can afford and the rewards flow from that?

Dundee doesn't need viagra in the water, this place needs to buck itself up, listen to what people tell them and react positively. Working facilities would be a good start.

Visited for the first time during the week. The comments are valid...all of them. Yes it's needing work and investment but that can only come if it's being used and people pay to go.

However, rather than risk cruising...where you have just as much of a chance of bumping into someone you know as you would in the sauna...at least it's a safer place to meet and have fun.

It was quiet, only 2 others in but we had a good time and I shall visit again!

I think that is one reason why more guys don’t use it. The entrance being on a busy bus route is not ideal. Maybe having the entrance in a different location would be better. Might encourage more people to visit. Also would be good it the steam room worked, can’t remember that last time it was in use, but it must be a few years.

Near Perth (not in Perth)

The steam room has never worked since the place opened in 2007. The sauna has always been on the cooler side of Luke warm. There has never been a jacuzzi. It's not on a busy road. And it doesn't scream gay sex venue. I've been to many gay sex clubs (aka saunas) throughout the UK and parts of Europe. They are easy to find. They're on busy streets and sometimes quite residential areas. And it's quite clear they are venues for gay and bi men only. And yet somehow they have plenty in attendance. Outside of event nights some years ago, I have never seen more than 6 guys in at same time! The big problem for any gay venue in Dundee is homophobia it's not a big enough catchment area. Steamworks in currently the only gay sauna in Edinburgh and that's a big catchment area, and yet they recently reduced their opening hours at weekends and during the week they have to have themed days to attract visitors. You're all taLking like it could be better and will get better. It's been like this since it opened back in 2007. So why anyone would take it on as a business is beyond me. It's financial suicide. Or maybe just some kind of sexual fantasy just to get off on saying, oh, I own a sex club!

I was there last week and had a good time and there was plenty of guys in on that day.

As I said the more people that go the more fun you will have.

If no one turns up it will close.

So all you in Dundee or North of Dundee if you want a fun place where you can be safe to play with another guy this is the place.

Not many or any safe places to go to have fun with another guy unless you take them back to your place but if you find you can't do that due to your wife or family then this is the best place to go unless you go to Edinburgh or Glasgow in Scotland.

I agree there, definitely safer and if you come from outside Dundee no one will know you.

Often the road that it's on isn't that busy and if you go between 12.30 and 4.00 in the afternoon you will see some guys and have fun.

Never been at night or weekends so don't know if it is busier then.

I have never left without having fun.

If you can't accommodate I would recommend it.

If you have a free bus pass I would recommend it.

I have never seen any thinks there and never see many guys under 25 which is a pity.

Surprised this place is still open in a small place like Dundee. Few locals must visit, too easy to get spotted. Besides those openly gay.

Barnhill (outside Dundee)

.

Is it beyond people to look anything up?

Their website says

Friday 30th June - Trans/ Cd and admirers night 8 pm till late

Saturday 1st July - fet/kink 8 pm till late.

and before anyone asks, I think the fet/kink is mixed gender as it doesn't say gay/bi fet/kink as other previous headers have

and it looks like Tuesdays 10am to 5pm is mixed

wondering what the 'rope class' is on Tuesday nights. A bondage thing I presume

Maybe there should be a themed night at Bacchus for 'those who cannot wipe their own arses'...

They’ve gotta find their way in the front door first

Probably need their hand held too.

All these comments are fair comments .

The club has its event nights its open 12 noon till 8pm Wednesday to Saturday and 1pm till 5pm Sundays for the sole use of gay and bi guys .

Gay and bi guys are still welcome to any of the events outwith those hours

The steamroom is out of commission and needs replacement but that won't happen until the funds become available. Running costs of the whole premises are a bit out of hand in the present climate the club runs at a loss and those who do use it unfortunately don't cover the costs let alone allow for the costs of upgrading.

Why would people be afraid they met someone who knows them in there. I'm sure the person they know would be there for the same reason, and unlikely to advertise that. bacchus is there to provide a safe comfortable environment for meeting like minded people socially or otherwise. The facilities are clean comfortable and safe.

The staff keep the place clean and trouble free for people to enjoy themselves. However the staff can't fill the venue, that's where the peoples choice comes in. Yes use it or lose it is a very apt phrase. As is use it improve it!

Well said. Bacchus is a good place. Any time I’ve been I’ve had fun albeit the most guys there numbered about 7. Nevertheless, it’s what YOU make of it. As has been said - use it or lose it.

Well Baachus has now got a new hotter sauna fitted giving you a good roasting compared to the last one.

I wasn't there long today but got fucked by a very handsome younger man but unfortunately I am was a bit tense so it was a bit painful for me.

Hopefully next time I will be more relaxed.

Being recently put on blood thinners didn't help either which was why I was tense.

Nice wee pub in Glasgow's Glassford Street called Bacchus lol.

It must have went 30 years in business without a name change...

Kudos!
