I used to work as a cleaner at Number 18. I was there for about 2 years. After I finished my shift at 12 noon, I spent a couple of hours in the sauna area. I had some good times there. Sorry it has gone now. I can accommodate at home, in Edinburgh, if any younger, ex customers are seeking fun. It was a fun place to go, could have done with a freshen up in places but it was what it was.

Always friendly and not a lot of people going round in circles all night.

Whatever happened to it? Is is another kind of business now or just closed and abandoned?

Lots of nice spaces to go to and even watch if that was your thing!

But it was the customers who made it, not a lot of posers turning their noses up at people.

Miss the place as do a lot of people!

The round pools are always amazing. Not only for being tossed but also for relaxing. The pool in Pipeworks is horrible, uncomfortable as fuck and slippery as hell. Can’t really sit there and enjoy a rest.

Steam works was on the fall but made out to be special. 18 was honest; it was sleazy and did exactly what it said in the tin. I loved that

Its demise spurred a revamp of steam works which was great.

Though now not a fan of steam works with all the themed days and no-towel events

I worked there for 2 years, as a cleaner & also used the facilities.

In that time, I never saw any rats in the place.

One morning, before opening time, I heard a noise, above the communal shower room.

I got the steps & opened the plastic ceiling square.

It was a squirrel running about.

It had got in through an open vent pipe.

I managed to catch it, & released it back outside. Then the maintainance guys wired up the pipe, so it could not get back in. It was quite funny at the time.
