I went for my 3 month check up last week and one of my test results came back inconclusive. So had to get it redone, came back negative so all good.

But I thought I would do the right thing when I was unsure and let the people I had met recently know what had happened.

I was astonished to know that they didn't know where to go or refused to go and get checked.

Firstly everyone on here should know where and what the sandyford clinic or where to get tested is.

Secondly if you are too scared to get tested in case you have something and dont want to have to tell the wife, don't play about.

But hoping to use this thread if anyone wants to ask any questions about going to get tested. I am happy to answer what I can and I am sure someone will be able to answer what I don't know.

But please if your playing about, get tested. It's only takes one to give you something and you may not even know you have something. Not everyone shows symptoms.

Well said. Being adults we should all know our status and get checked regularly

I think everyone already knows this but for some strange reason people just won't go and get it done, God knows why

Sadly my friend your comment reflects the usual flawed logic that all infection risk comes from fucking arse.

Of course it can be a nervous experience the first time but the staff I have always seen are really nice and will easily explain that there isn't really that much out there that can't be easily treated if it's known about.

Unless your doing oral with a condom you still need to get checked. Oral chlamydia is a thing.

They do clinics in multiple places now too. I only need to go to Greenock health centre for my testing for the most part

It’s very easy and they make you feel at ease, no reason not to get tested

Is there a fee for this service. And do you get results sent to your home address.

I just said I’ve been lucky and maybe this is why , I get checked ( otherwise how would I know I was clear ) in my humble opinion the main flawed logic is using prep and thinking that makes you invincible

Have to agree with you.

Just common sense, which sadly, isn't too common these days.

Barnhill (outside Dundee)

"Is there a fee for this service. And do you get results sent to your home address. "

.

No to both.

They give you a card with your reference number on it. It's an automated results system.

You will be given a small card known as a telephonetics card that will tell you your NaSH (clinic) number, the date of tests, and the tests taken.

You will be able to speak to a nurse or sexual health adviser by pressing the number indicated to discuss your results if you need further support or advice.

.

For those in Glasgow and can manage day time, Sandyford does clinics in Pipeworks sauna. These clinics in P/W are swabs (mouth and anal) plus urine tests, no blood is taken nor is there vaccinations. Tests are taken by a qualified nurse.

Times move about so best to check "Events" page on Pipeworks website if you are reading this months on. For instance, used to be 3rd Wed and last Fri of each month (or maybe the reverse).

I've just checked and it is currently listing every Wednesday for Jan and Feb, 1.30 to 3.30, no update at time of writing for March.

No appointment is required and entry is free to the venue if only visiting the sexual health screening.

I can imagine it’s the married ones who are mostly the (potential ) problem.

Afraid to be seen going to these places in case someone they know sees them.

So , just stick their head in the sand and hope for the best.

"Occasionally" means you still run the risk. The risk of catching HIV from oral are extremely low, but not zero.

For those that are nervous, the Sandyford walk in testing at Pipeworks every Wednesday 1.30-3.30pm is super easy. You just go in, tell them you're there for the testing and they give you a number in the queue, there's never many there and they do all testing including bloods for HIV and syphilis. As mentioned earlier you get a card with details to ring a week later for automated results. In December I got an inconclusive result too for a throat swab, but when retested it was negative, they said it could just have been that the sample wasn't adequate for the testing process. I've been going to the walk in every 3 months for years and genuinely cannot fault it. Also agree with the previous comment saying that being on prep seems to make some guys think they are invincible, but at least you know that they are getting regularly tested if on prep.

"Is there a way to get tested anonymously?"

They don't inform your GP if you don't want them to, no one else would know anyway

Some crucial points to consider

Testing Saves Lives

Undiagnosed STIs can cause serious health issues, even if there are no symptoms initially. If left untreated, they may harm both you and your partner.

Remember, infections can stay dormant and emerge later, potentially with serious consequences. Regular testing is the most responsible and compassionate choice.

Condoms: Great, But Not Perfect

Condoms offer strong protection against most common STIs, including HIV.

However, they are less effective against infections like herpes, genital warts, and scabies, which can transfer through skin-to-skin contact. Using condoms still greatly reduces overall risk, so don’t skip them!

PrEP: A Useful Tool, But Limited

PrEP is a powerful preventative measure for HIV.

DOXYPREP, an approach aimed at preventing bacterial STIs, remains under research. It carries the risk of promoting antibiotic resistance and should not replace regular testing or safer practices.

What Testing Covers vs. Misses

Covers: Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Syphilis, HIV, Hepatitis A & B.

Misses: Herpes (HSV), genital warts (HPV), crabs, scabies, and fungal infections.

If you have visible sores or lesions, don’t wait—get them swabbed or examined immediately. Early diagnosis leads to easier treatment and prevents complications. Most of these things are either treatable or manageable and do minimal harm, but can increase risk of other STIs, So good to know.

Sandyford now only tests people in greater glasgoow health area, so if in Lanarkshire or any other health board area phone for local testing

So glad this thread was started and well done to you.

There is much ignorance around testing etc.

I’ve had guys say they don’t need tested cos they’re only doing oral wtf! So much out there from oral alone. People get STI’s in throat all the time and don’t know they have it until they get tested, no symptoms at all.

Guys who say safe sex only and are sucking cocks without a condom are not practising safe sex.

I agree a lot of partnered and married guys not getting checked or know about clinics.

When I was married I used to get checked at a Sandyford clinic which was in a different area so it’s easy.

As said before Prep only protects against HIV not STI’s

Safe sex is condom for anal AND oral.

Thank you again for starting this thread!

No such thing as safe sex: only SAFER sex

For anyone who's not been to Sandyford here's how it works

1 go online and book in appointment

2 turn up on time

3 the nurse will ask if your partner is male or female or both, so they know what test to give you

4 the nurse will take a blood sample

5 you are then given 3 sample bottles and 2 swabs

6 go to toilet and fill 1 sample bottle with urine

7 next sample is throat swab just like a covid test the snap the swab stick and pop it in the throat swab then snap end off, put it in the sample bottle, put lid back on

8 next swab is a anal swab put tip of swab stick in your rectum about 1 cm in and give it a rub round, then take out, snap swab stick and pop it in the anal swab bottle put lid back on

Give them all back to the nurse

You do the swab samples yourself privately in the toilet

The nurse gives you a card with a code number on it and a phone number, you phone it in 10 days time after your visit and get you results on the automated system

If you wish you can have your visit jeot anonymous from your GP records as well

Al in all it takes only 10 minutes, the nurses are really nice and non judgmental, the last time we were chatting about gardening,

Come on guys go for it, let's show the others that we are more responsible than them
