Edinburgh seemed to be a more open minded place then. Had great fun in my teens visiting certain places that were said to be taboo for guys my age.

I'm surprised by your comment. I live in Ayrshire. It most certainly was not a more open minded place. Even with the swinging 60s.

Having been brought up in Edin and agree late 60s/early 70s were good times. Think Edin was more liberal than lots of other places and had a variety of places to go.
