Without membership you get charged the membership fee every visit.

To join they just need a name/DOB, and they give you a plastic card. You can make them up. They don't ask for proof unless you look underage. You can throw away the card, but you'll need to remember your fake details whenever you visit

It opens at 11am. I'm going today (Friday), I usually get there at 12.15pm. It picks up around 2pm. But be warned, it can be hit or miss. That's part of the fun, you just never know what to expect.
