I've to go in and get checked out, will I be better getting knocked out for it or does the air&gas really stop the pain? I don't do pain well.

I would take the medication that relaxes you.

It’s not like a general anaesthetic as you’re awake all the time. You hardly feel anything at all. I’ve had 2 and the worst thing is taking the laxative before the procedure. Awful tasting stuff but it certainly does the trick.

You will be fine.

A few years ago I went for a colonoscopy. I can't have read the pre op notes properly so drove myself to the hospital and they wouldn't give me an anaesthetic.

They did it without and it wasn't a problem, just a twinge as the tube negotiated one or two bends in my colon.

I could watch it all on a tv screen.

when i had one it was horrible as they found out that mine is twisted and tried to negotiate the bends and tried all different ways to get it done but failed not something that i want to try again

Mine was done a few years back and decided not to be sedated...

Bad move on my part because I felt thd camera wiggling around in there. The colorectal surgeon said jokingly , (because i could see it all on the TV screen )

" does my bum look big in this"

He was sexy...34 but unfortunately his wife was a nurse who worked at the same hospital

He could have slid something else up there

Damn...

Make sure that your wee bum is completely smooth and smells fresh. Makes it soo much more pleasant for the nurses...

You can drive home when you have gas and air. Not when you have the anesthetic..XX

Under normal circumstances the sedative works well. If you are experiencing any discomfort they will just give you more . It works well. I can’t remember my last one at all but I have problems in that department. Iv had 5 up to now.

You will be absolutely fine. After it just let the air out as your bowl is empty and no your not going to shit yourself lol

I've had it without. Not pleasant, but really just uncomfortable rather than painful. Quite interesting to watch the whole thing on the screen.

Up to you, depends on your own level of comfort or squeamishness.

I think I had mild sedation and I didn’t really feel a thing if I’m honest

It’s a bit weird watching it on screen in front of you but fascinating at the same time.

Like others have said, the worst thing was the laxative drink - it tasted evil!

I've had a colonoscopy and didn't feel a think. Didn't even have to put the mask to my face.

Had it with out anaesthetic. Only the first couple of inches are felt, (true what they say)gas and air works wonders, slight discomfort at times as they are filling you with air to inflate your intestine, once the air escapes, all better.

Nothing to be worried about.

The one that goes down the throat however is a different story.

I've had this twice. No pain.

Just feel a little pressure and it's all a little vague afterwards.

Good luck

Plenty of length, but not much girth.

Taking the laxative is the worst part! During the procedure just relax and fart the air out then it is painless
