The police ( certainly in Surrey when I used to play there) were mainly looking for maybe a bit of a laugh but officially looking after safety.

I have had a torch shone on me a few times but never been spoken to.

One of the gurls that was more regular than me had a great photo of herself sat on the bonnet of the police car with the coppers stood either side smiling.
