Contact mags..that's what uses to be the thing. It took ages to set up a meeting. For those who don't know. When replying to an advert you had to send the letter to the magazine. They would forward it to the advertiser. The advertiser would then reply or not to you. The magazines could be a few months old when you bought it so the advert was old and possibly the advertiser was no longer looking to hook up. So lots of false starts. Also many adverts didn't include a photo so you has to wait until you received a photo through the post to decide if you still wanted to meet. It would take months from when you sent an advert to the mag for it to appear in the msg in the shops too. Very long drawn out process indeed.
