The more I explore on here the more it appears that Prep is really important. I don't meet often due to marriage, work and family and haven't engaged in anal. But, I will be retired and living alone in Cardiff by Easter. I imagine I might be more active and exploring more. Anyone know much about it and where to go?

FRANCE, no longer in

You can read all about it on the Internet but best is to get the basics from the nhs web site. Then get down to the nearest or most convenient sexual health clinic and go through your options with the trained professionals. Don't be embarrassed or worried as they will have seen and heard it all.

Book an appointment in the sexual health clinic at Cardiff Royal Infirmary and they can sort you with tests and a three month supply PrEP.

Ask about doxyPEP as well. It helps protect against chlamydia and syphilis.

At your next GUM clinic visit talk to the clinician.

Lots of other things to consider too like Hep AB&C, HPV, MenB etc.

Loom after yourself and you fo the community too. 💉 💊

I thought going to a local std clinic would be horrific but they're really nice and non judgemental even if you catch something (unfortunately I had gonorrhea this year).

Now on prep myself and had some injections against the other diseases.

"Ask about doxyPEP as well. It helps protect against chlamydia and syphilis. "

So you can use on doxy prep? Or do you still need to take standard prep to?

Doxy PReP for Chlamydia, Syphilis and Gonorrhea only around 70% effective

PReP such as Tenofovir is for prevention of HIV only

I was completely straight up until about 5 years ago when I started to fantasise obout sex with men. Didn't do anything about it, mainly because of worrying about the risks. Earlier this year I plucked up the courage of making an appointment at my local NHS sexual health clinic in Carmarthen.

Was nothing to be nervous about. Staff were great. Waiting room is usually empty or maybe one other male or female in there. Get tested, results are sent by text and phone call arranged for one week later to go over the result with a trained professional. If all is well, three months prep in the post a few days later or you can collect from the clinic. As I live on my own, getting it in the post is no problem.

Well worth it. Does give me additional peace of mind. No matter what you limits are when meeting someone, things can go further in the excitement and heat of the moment. You can also ask for free condoms while there.

I just started on prep and doxy pep and had all the vaccines the clinic had to offer. Im not taking it as a free reign to bareback with anyone, its an extra layer of protection.

If someone has hiv and you want to meet them they take it but why put self in that situation people should get checked for it. I would not meet them if they had hiv.

And it'd be a lucky miss for them, clearly. Fair enough you don't meet poz guys, safety and choice come first absolutely, but you need to be such a judgemental twat about it too?

Your local NHS sexual health clinic will only keep records on there system, so your doctor or other health providers can't see any details, neither insurance companies etc

Some health authorities are starting to share this data with main line hospitals and doctors but you can opt out if you want.

It’s DoxyPEP you take it after sex.

Post exposure prophylaxis (PEP)

PrEP is pre exposure prophylaxis

DoxyPEP is for chlamydia and syphilis.

There is a vaccination for gonorrhoea which is only 20-40% effective.

Please speak to you clinic. Who will tell you how to take the medication.

Which Health Authorities are starting to share information?

When you register you have the option to share information with your GP. You don’t even have to give GP details. You can say no. You can give a fake name but don’t give a fake date of birth as you’ll forget it.
