Then you had the large darkrooms as the bars started to open. You did not have to buy a drink or pay to get in and could stay there until the early hours of the morning. I was lucky to know most of the true legends who were some of the first guys out there. When they had to stay in Las Palmas and go down to the south on buses. If you ever go to the beach bar in Maspalomas ( strande apotieke ) a German institution there were pictures on the wall. Now the biggest bit of luck I had out there was having a great friend who opening up the greatest bar in the world ( in my eyes of course) NA-UND. Bernhard without doubt at the time the biggest name in Jumbo ran the bar and the nights we had was just incredible. You could not move in there. And the sing-a-longs we had and banter and laughs I have never experienced here in my beloved England ever. Baring in mind this is a German bar and at the time full of German, Dutch, Austrian men and at first I only knew a Canadian old boy to chat too. 10 years later and many , many trips I knew more than half the bar. And I can remember when in November you could hardly walk on the path outside as there were so many guys trying to get into Na-Und. It was a fantastic time to be going there and without doubt the greatest place to be for sex in the world. But of course the greatest place for sex was the jewel in the crown THE DUNES. It was just full of Men of from all over Europe. Hundreds and hundreds of them. All ages and I have met guys in there nineties back then , just cruising and having sex. There were no straights, no couples just Men. Anywhere there were bushes you would get sex. You would find the local taxi drivers, coach drivers, all sorts in there looking for a play. There were named places in there. The tunnels, The reeds, The ledges, Old man’s corner, lilac park, Jurassic park, Piccadilly Circus. The reeds would have at least a hundred guys cruising at peak times of the day and if you did not get there by 10.30 in the morning there would not be a place to put your towel out. You could have up too 50 guys a day for some sort of encounter. Not cumming each time of course, but an encounter. That’s of course if you cruised all day like I and others did. I would go in there at 9/9.30 in the morning and leave about 6.30/7 in the evening. The best thing was the next day you would have new arrivals which ment fresh meat. Once a month we ( the guys I had met over the years ) would have a party in there. On a Sunday a dear old guy from Kent ( Alan) would organise a party ( German, Dutch and Spanish guys, it was such a laugh. Many not speaking each others language that well but it did not matter. We found away around it. They was a magical time to be going to GRAN CANARIA . Of course the other real favourite place I loved was the old LAS VEGAS. I was 19 years of age, first time in the states, gone alone there and not even old enough to drink. It felt like it was still run by the mafia back then. I was staying in the old desert inn. You still had desert behind a lot of the hotels and no hotels like they are today. On my first evening out and about I stumble across a sex kino store and although I said I went alone I was actually on a world championship boxing holiday, so by now I was with a group of Welsh guys staying in my hotel. So what I used to do was sneak out after midnight and go to this sex store. Was a big one with big car park outside. Of course at the back was a part with about 30 booths showing porn videos. Once you went through the curtain it went dark. All you could see was flickering light until your eyes adjusted to the dark. It was so seedy and sleazy. About 30 booths. Some with holes in door. Some with the locks Brocken. Some with the door not fitting properly and you could just about see who was in there. You could see shadows of guys stood around. If was just paradise me. Also you seemed to get more of the locals coming in through the night. The misfits, pervs exhibitionists and mainly an older crowd who were right up my street. I used to be there every night without fail. And also got there a few daytimes but was not quite the same. But it was a great time back then and certainly there would not be the same nowadays.
