Profile Security and listing on search engines

I've always had the option "Allow my profile to be listed on search engines" set to "no" so I was surprised when I searched on my screen name to find it on Google search.

Although I couldn't see the photos without logging in, it returned most of the text based details via a url on fabguys - so it seems the site is releasing details even if requested not to list - is this the intended behaviour?

I would check your settings, do you have "Show profile to non-registered users" blocked too?

I confirm I have both privacy options selected to be hidden and if I search my username+ fabguys on Google I am listed along with everyone else.

THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED ASAP!

No, I was relying on the text "Search engines: You can choose not to have your profile listed on search engines like google. If you opt out, your profile may take a couple of weeks to disappear from search: We have no control over this." - I should be opted out but it still appears

Ive never been opted in and my details are showing. Theres a problem Fabguys!

As you say, no photos are showing thank god but the latest status message in all its glory is visible.

It shouldn't show on google if you use that setting. However if you search for your profile name when logged out you will see the text on it unless you block that to unregistered users. They are two different things

Obviously if someone doesn't know your username they wouldn't be searching for it

I guess not but it is rather startling to find a lot of personal details you expected to be concealed.

You're right you don't show but I have always been checked and I'm still showing! Though b don't know if it's significant but the list says 300 members on my area yet I didn't specify an area.

It says this when I tried to search for your profile offline

"Profile only shows to registered users."

You can check if you have turned these options on from this page.

I suspect that, as FabGuysOfficial mentions, you've not opted out of showing profile to non-registered users. You aroused my interest and I searched for your profile: "_otchercock Ivor (63) Man from Telford, West Midlands, UK" is the only info that shows in results, but clicking on the link then takes me (obviously, a REGISTERED user) to your profile, amongst the other +300 who've also not opted out.

I then searched for my own and "We would like to show you a description here but the site won't allow us." is what shows up (I opted out of both).

No I've definitely opted out of both options, in fact my privacy page is all X's except for the one that allows my profile to be shown. They've never been anything other than all switched off since the account was created ages ago.

I've been on google search forever, even catfish accounts from people using my pics, the best thing is to put your pics on friends only but tbh, it's only comes up if someone knows your username and specifically looking for you, fab sites are pretty discreet on searches, most dont put their faces on so you should be ok

I have the search engine and unregistered user options unchecked in my privacy settings and if I search for my user name nothing comes up... I'm either not understanding the issue or it is working as expected.

Hmm! I just checked, same settings as yourself. I googled "username fabguys" which yesterday bought up a list of 300 members with statuses and now - it doesn't! Just takes you to a search results which is a link to the login page. So either something has fixed itself - or has been fixed....

Nothing has changed since yesterday. If people use the privacy settings provided they should work how they are meant to

Well I'm only saying what happened, I certainly had both privacy options in place but I saw what I saw. Today though it seems to be correct. Well I'll put it in the "fancy that!" Category for now and try it from time to time. If it does happen again I will report it but hopefully it won't.

I am not sure what you are looking at but your name or profile didn't come up anywhere when searching for it at anytime over the timescale of this thread when I searched for it.

If you do find it showing anywhere take a screenshot, load it on your gallery ( it will be rejected but leave it in there ) and contact Admin who will check that everything is working right and you had opted out at the time
