Bumming normally means 'to beg' (or 'begging') here - so would never use it the way the OP does.

In my youth bummer and bumming referred exclusively to homosexuals so I prefer it to the term fucking.

In a world of my own

Bumming, bummer and bugger all are words that make me smile when I hear them now, of an age when gay sex was sniggered or frowned upon!

Sir y Fflint - Gogledd Cymru

The word "bumming" now has a dated sound, it does sound a tad comedic in modern-day parlance, although I think it does have a certain charm.

A quick search reveals that "Bumming" as a vulgarity for anal sex likely comes from the words "bugger" and "bum". "Bugger" originally referred to the Bogomil, a medieval Eastern European sect deemed heretical by the Catholic Church and who were maliciously dubbed as "sodomites" in an attempt to discredit them. The French term "bougre" was used for this group, and over time, "bugger" took on a different meaning in English. These days, "bugger" is more commonly used, and "bumming" sounds a bit old-fashioned. The word's evolution says a lot about how attitudes have changed over time.

Bumming sits alongside other words and phrase not heard so much nowadays, such as 'he bats for the other side', puff or iron hoof, and nancy boy. Then there were more explicit phrases such as shirt lifter, shit stabber or fudge packer. Any more?

No, I'm not a great fan of the expression.

My father used to refer to me as a "bum boy", and if he was feeling particularly under the influence would introduce me to others as "this is N.... the families bum boy".

So no, not sad it's fallen out of use.

Nowt wrong with the word fucking - nice and explicit. Bumming is fine but may not always mean penetration. Can just be a nice groin thrust against ones bum. I like both.
