I've got an anti-clockwise clock on my kitchen wall, so I turn the hands back one hour in order to move the time forward one hour

"I've got an anti-clockwise clock on my kitchen wall, so I turn the hands back one hour in order to move the time forward one hour "

When I was much much younger, I had one of those too, everyone found it very very confusing, but not as confusing as the ‘metric’ clock I had, that just made no sense at all.

When my staff used to annoy me by constantly asking the date over and over again I sometime used to give them the date according to the French Revolutionary Calendar and let them work it out themselves

Oh, I agree - leave the clocks alone. It makes no actual difference to how much daylight there is in any day.

If it bothers you, just change you start and finish times with the seasons, but stop meddling with everybody's feckin' clock twice a year!

Time always used to be based on local noon.

So midday was dependant on where you were.

Example Harwich is 22mins ahead of Plymouth.

Time as we understand it was invented for railway timetables.

This is how by knowing the exact time @Greenwich ie an accurate clock, you could discover your longitude at noon.
