You don’t build a half century singing career entirely on shit songs.

Just because you don’t have a taste for cliff songs doesn’t make them shit. I’m absolutely sure there are songs that you love that I would really not like, and vice versa.

Some of the early rock and roll songs like 'Willy do the hand jive' were excellent but a lot of the ballads were terrible. D in love - for example.

I would have said Devil Woman but I'd forgotten that gem, probably as a result of the trauma it can inflict on the accidental listener who it catches unaware

Totally calm, don’t see anything in the post that could make you think even vaguely otherwise, as for decent cliff songs, here’s a few;

Move It

Travelling Light

Please Don’t Tease

Theme for a Dream

When the Girl in Your Arms

It’ll Be Me

On The Beach

Throw Down A Line

Goodbye Sam Hello Samantha

Miss You Nights

Not true, he carried his fifties/sixties teeny pop fan base with him through the generations... they are all OAP's now and still love him and his songs! Oh, except that song 'My Ding a Ling', they never liked that one... but forgave him for it!

Quantity does not mean quality. However his most egregious trait is his sanctimonious, treacle demeanour. And anyone with the sheer brass neck to entertain the War Criminal B. L. A. I. R. 1 these past twenty five each each festival of his blood soaked deity ( compare Paul Jones) deserves all the bile any civilised man can muster. To paraphrase the immortal words of Ambrose Beirce, Cliff is one who considers the Nazoreen Creed ideally suited to the spiritual needs of his neighbour.

What makes a good song?

People liking it.

Music and songs are for enjoyment and if they succeed in bringing that to anyone then they can be classed as good.

There are many songs and artists I don’t like but my opinion doesn’t make them bad.

If music was judged solely on whether someone doesn’t like it then jazz and rock n roll would have been stopped before they took off.

Live and let live. Don’t like Cliff? Don’t listen to him.

"Obviously he's completely shite so what's the worst one?

Me? All of them."

He’s the biggest selling artist of all time, outsold The Beatles and Elvis, talking tangible copies of course not streaming, and this is because he started back in the 50s and carried on past the millennium, more recently bringing out songs at Christmas with strong christian values, just to get the sales of course 😉

"… However his most egregious trait is his sanctimonious, treacle demeanour. And anyone with the sheer brass neck to entertain the War Criminal B. L. A. I. R. 1 these past twenty five each each festival of his blood soaked deity ( compare Paul Jones) deserves all the bile any civilised man can muster. To paraphrase the immortal words of Ambrose Beirce, Cliff is one who considers the Nazoreen Creed ideally suited to the spiritual needs of his neighbour..."

There’s a reason no-one sits next to you at the Christmas party, isn’t there..?

(And it’s not just because you don’t wear shoes, which you are always telling us.)

"Carrie is great!"

Yep ... I like the production from that time.

Wired For Sound too ... Devil Woman/Miss You Nights ect

(although I would never have admitted to enjoying them at the time of their release)

Can't say that I've ever listened to a full Cliff album .... so no idea what his weakest work would be.

Even estimating a 1:10^12 probability that I might have been visited by Blair at Christmas, Cliff was doing me a huge favour by enticing him elsewhere. Fair do's, then.

And why did you substitute "Nazareen (sic) Creed" for "New Testament" in your adaptation of Bierce's excellent apothegm?

I’ll put in an honourable mention for The Day I Met Marie, a truly beautiful song, written coincidentally by Hank Marvin.

Carrie....closely followed by the rest. But a big mention for Saviours Day.....truly fucking awful.
