Sorry if this is a bit off topic.

Had an EV on loan and honestly having always been anti EV I was really pleasantly surprised and found it an absolute joy to drive VW ID3 comfortable and quick, now then my wife whom has travelled thousands of miles with me was travel sick within a mile, and the same after a break and the return journey, I wondered if anyone else had experienced this phenomenon?

I’ve been driving EVs with and without passengers for a couple of years and not had the problem but I think I know what might have caused it. EVs use regenerative braking utilising OPD (one pedal driving).

Take your foot off the accelerator pedal and the car slows down faster than an ICE car would. Some are more fierce than others. You quickly get used to using it and when you do it becomes very relaxing, but until you get used to it, you might have been slowing down and speeding up a bit too quickly.

The other part of the equation is that all EVs react astonishingly quickly to the accelerator pedal. That too takes a bit of getting used to, so you might have been ‘lurching’ a bit without realising it.

One other thing I forgot to mention. Most EVs have quite a large screen in the centre of the dashboard. If your passenger is like me and feels nauseous when trying to read from a phone, book or magazine as a passenger, she might feel the same if she’s trying to read from the screen. But I suspect the culprit is that you aren’t used to OPD yet.

She did say she didn't like the big screen,I would have thought the acceleration was an issue

"She did say she didn't like the big screen,I would have thought the acceleration was an issue "

When I’m a passenger, I have to keep looking out of the front windscreen and not try to read in order to avoid feeling nauseous. So she probably has a similar problem. I think all EVs have quite a big screen.

I love my EV.

Don't know about the ID, but I test drove a Volvo XC40 a couple of years ago and the fake carbon insert in the dash made my ex car sick. It was just the sort of chequered visual effect of it.

I was very impressed with an EV on loan from Temu.

Zero charging time, no worries about battery replacement.

It's just a shame I couldn't buy an extension lead long enough for my usual commute! 😁

The short of the story is there won't be an EV on the drive any time soon, she wants to stick with the Tiguan

Ev great to drive etc

However, more expensive, your insurance will increase 50% or more

Charging costs expensive at rest areas etc only cheap at home , not enough charging points

Driving range not enough, they need to get a charge for minimum 500 miles

Id never have an EV, when you do as many miles as I do then you'd know waiting around for a charge isn't possible.

I have a hybrid but only because it reduces the amount of tax I have to pay .

Well yes there is the rub we are considering downsizing and the place we are looking at is ideal in every way for us but has no off street parking

"Well yes there is the rub we are considering downsizing and the place we are looking at is ideal in every way for us but has no off street parking"

There's a local guy not far from here in dispute with the council about his charging arrangement.

They really need to make it easier for controlled street charging spots .

Otherwise people won't be able to do it unless they have drives

Can't have an EV as I choose to live in an upper flat with communal parking, so can't have a home charger. Doing 15k miles a year EVs don't make any sense for me

Wait until it needs a software update or the 12v battery goes flat or something else happens, which won’t be long, and see how much it’s depreciated since you bought it

My insurance didn’t increase by 50%.

There are plenty of charging points in the UK. I drive more miles than most people and I’ve never queued to charge or run out of charge.

When’s the last time you drove 500 miles without a break? I’ve never stopped to charge. I stop when I need a break. The car charges itself while I’m having a break. In an ICE car, I’d have to have a break then fill up later with ludicrously expensive petrol or diesel.

My last ICE car would only do 300 miles on a full tank.

Where’s your source for that? Hint: there isn’t one. EV batteries will outlast the rest of the car. Then, unlike used petrol, they are 96% recyclable.

Last week I drove from Nottingham to Bristol and back on the same day. 284 miles. I did it on a single charge. Because I charged at home on the cheap overnight rate, the whole trip cost me about £8..

A few weeks ago I drove from Nottingham to Edinburgh and back, staying overnight. I stopped for a break both ways and charged while having a break. The car had fully charged while I still eating a burger.

In 2 years of EV ownership, driving well above average miles, I’ve never waited to charge. The car waits for me to finish my break.

Although it’s possible to run an EV without having home charging, it’s certainly better and considerably cheaper if you can charge at home. There’s a lot of work to be done to make it easier and fairer for those who can’t charge at home.

My EV has had several OTA updates and the 12V battery has never gone flat. I’ve had it serviced once in 2 years. There’s little to go wrong on EVs. Mine has never gone wrong.

All cars depreciate, especially from new. The last ICE car I bought from new lost £16k as soon as I drove it off the forecourt. Anyone who buys a new car doesn’t worry about the depreciation.

Weirdly round our end little charging points have appeared on lamp posts. No publicity, no announcement, i only noticed when the blue light caught my eye the other morning. Why install & tell no one?

You are clearly an apologist for this awful technology. You are also extremely dismissive of those who don't agree with your views of EV. I presume that you have some connection to the industry. But please, just wind your neck in and realise that others don't always subscribe to your views ... for valid reasons.

I always call out the lies and misinformation surrounding EVs and I’ll continue to do so. Sorry if you can’t cope with that. I have no connection to the industry and never have.

A friend of mine has a full electric Mokka. Absolutely no problems getting it serviced. There’s more than one Vauxhall dealer.

What a twatish comment, can you not cope with the fact that someone actually has experience of driving an ev?

What an absolute snowflake.

Unless of course this is satire, it's really hard to know now.

My opinion on evs at this moment in time. Too expensive for a decent one not enough charging points, I'm not sure but I guessing most evs are either financed or leased which means most will end them back after the end of the deal and get a new one which if evs was only car I could get I would do that also. If nearly ever one did that they won't be much second hand cars to buy. I wouldn't buy a ev run around over the battery warranty just incase the battery goes wrong if it was a 8 9 tear old petrol and fully serviced I would buy one. I can't see many 10 plus year evs on the road in 2040. I heard they ate working on a battery that doesn't degrade if that is true then I will change my opinion.

We have a small EV on what is becoming a long term loan from the garage. Driving it is brilliant but that's about it. We don't have a charging point so I have to use my friends, here in north Wales there are very few charging points available. The practical range is quite pathetic, around 80 miles despite it saying it has 160 on a full charge, probably OK in a town but out in rural areas it's totally impractical. The end result is that it's sat on the drive unused.

Until there are enough working charging points in all areas I wouldn't consider buying one
