Bunch of old men complaining for the sake of it. If you don’t like it, turn your tv off, lock your door, and don’t take part.

Plenty of people find ways to enjoy the season, and celebrate life in general

At a cold and wet time of year it’s good to get a few days off work at least.

Bit of a waste of emotion given that you can't stop it and it's hard to avoid.

Many people choose not to celebrate it for a variety of reasons however, instead of sitting with hatred why not channel your emotions more positively. Find a way to make a difference either to your life or, better still, someone else's?

Since I started taking a Vit D supplement daily (to offset the risk of muscle atrophy from PrEP), I've found it easier to get through the winter gloom.

Today is already almost 5 minutes longer than Friday and soon we will be sauntering through sunlit woods encountering horny men & getting all sweaty.

This brief Xmas nonsense will be over.

"It's winter I hate

That's how I feel. Nothing against Christmas as such. Don't celebrate it with any enthusiasm and tend to stay at home alone with plenty of nice food and some good DVDs. Trouble is that Christmas is the herald of two--sometimes three--long dark cold months of cold days, long nights, snow, sleet and rain.

Wiser creatures than us mere humans go into hibernation for the duration of the Winter, thus avoiding the silly season altogether, I've always fancied the idea of finding a nice cosy corner and snuggling up, sleeping through and waking up in the lighter and warmer days of Spring! 🌞😎

I love Christmas while acknowledging it's a hideously stressful and emotional time of year.

If you really hate it and don't want to partake, don't. It's only a couple of days.

Buy in your favourite snacks, your favourite tipple and sit on the sofa and bingewatch your favourites non Christmas movie series and it'll be gone in a flash.

It'd easy to ignore if you put your mind to it. If you can't it means you probably miss actually enjoying Christmas which requires different advice altogether

Christmas lasts from around August to December. Easter starts around February I think. Mother’s Day lasts for weeks. Valentine’s Day is certainly longer than a day. Halloween lasts from September into November (people can’t be arsed to remove their sagging carved pumpkins for weeks from their houses around here).

Nothing has immediacy or relevance to the underlying “cause” any more, it’s all just dragged out as long as they can to rake in as much money as possible.

“Christmas is the climax of a year long campaign to turn our children into grasping materialists”.

I’m for celebrating the Wheel of the Year, Yule and the Solstice - it actually means something and the bloody marketing teams haven’t got to it … yet.

I'm don't like the over commercialism of Christmas from early autumn and the crass overhype and so called Christmas tunes blurting out from 1st November.

Although now Christmas Eve is here, I do like to focus on and enjoying the purely simple traditional and spiritual aspects and tributes of the season in the way it once was.

It’s a sad fact that; there’s always someone worse off than you.

So, if you hate Christmas, cause it does nothing, gives nothing, or is lonely for you, then perhaps seek meaning through doing something good for someone else.

Helping someone have a hot meal, or a kid wake up to a toy, or being the voice on the phone to someone lonely, will be a more rewarding use of the time than sitting at home being miserable and throwing crisps at the TV!

. Yes and we use to live in caves. This is still a Christian country and majority of population still recognise 25th Dec as the day of the birth of Jesus Christ. Whatever your beliefs it should be a time of love, sharing, and spending time with one another

I guess a lot of us 'hate' Christmas because we live alone, have no family to speak of [or an estranged family] and are constantly being told "You should not be on your own for Christmas". To me December 25th is no different to say May 17th or August 23rd for being on your own. I think it is also the 3 month build up with the adverts, the corny music and shopping aisles full of tinsel and tat.

Having spent quite a few years in the hospitality trade I have in the past promoted and encouraged Christmas celebrations. Now I just want to sit back, relax and celebrate in my own quiet way.

Whether religious or not, with family and friends or not. Think of it as day to give thanks for the things you have and the good deeds you have done, or reflect on the things you could have dine better and how you will road-map that in the new year. If your life is lacking in something, material or otherwise, then it's a day to think about the opportunity to change. I appreciate many have no one to share the day with, if that bothers you, join an event or volunteer. If it doesn't bother you, have a quiet day doing what you like. Coming here and whining about it isn't going to help.

Religion is not a rebellion - the spread of religion has been caused by imperialism and its armies. E g there was no christianity in Africa till about 150 years ago. A person is entitled to their personal faith but organised religion is a blight on our lives.

Oh, please don't get me wrong - I fully respect people's choice to adhere to a religion, or not.

That's one of the values of this country - religious freedom.

Then we have people posting about an Islamic conspiracy theory to seize control of the UK.

Gays will be executed blah blah.

And you look at the evidence. And you're left with the conclusion they've been thoroughly duped by those who want to breed fear and division.

Politicians of the muslim faith have held some of the highest offices in the land - Chancellor, Home Secretary, Leader of the Lords, chair of the Tory Party, Mayor of London, First Minister of Scotland.

Show me one whose politics were anything other than British values. Just one.

The FM of Scotland even took the UK Government to court demanding STRONGER rights for trans people.

. Being on your own is not a healthy existence for most. There are many opportunities throughout the year to find friends on this world. It may not seem appealing but why shut doors before you spend some time going through them. With respect I must correct you there Sir. During the Soviet era Christmas, like religion in general, was repressed in Russia. However these days it is freely celebrated only on Jauary 7th rather than December 25th as the Russian Orthodox church still uses the Julian calendar. Christmas is obviously not celebrated in some strict Islamic countries or even some with oppressive dictatorships.

Christianity has existed in Africa for a long time. Probably became more prevalent 150 or so years ago with the British, French, Belgian, Italian and German colonisation but it certainly goes back way beyond that. Ethiopia is one of the oldest Christian countries on Earth.

Strange and out-of-character as it may seem, the odious despot Putin is a staunch supporter of the Orthodox Church and during his rule several cathedrals and churches have been rebuilt and restored. Patriarch Kiril has openly backed Putin with the Ukraine invasion. Could perhaps be because the Ukraine Orthodox Church declared its independence from Moscow a few years ago.

Just thought I'd get politics in before anyone else does. Lol.

Ho ho ho.

The Christmas story should be a politics free zone. Mary and Joseph, were essentially refugees in their own country. They had to search for a place to give birth and then flee from a murderous Herod. Guy gave them a stable. So the next time you’re feeling overwhelmed by the millions of refugees trying to escape war, persecution and natural disasters, be like the innkeeper. Ignore the right wing stirring up hated and open up your heart .

Amen.

Cue choir of Angels, and probably ding dong merrily on high of gammons piling in any minute.

"the Christmas story should be a politics free zone...." says he before making a big political issue out of it

Hello??? Lost your sense of humour in the Xmas rush?

My sense of humour is still intact and don't do 'Christmas rushes' [Tesco was fairly quiet when I went there today at 7am] Still failed to see anything funny about your post with all that waffle about refugees, right-wingers and gammons."

Ah, my dad warned me about strange people who lurk outside supermarkets before they are even open

Swanwick area

I used to work all of Christmas. Day and nights.

Loved it. Just me and the radio and keeping industry working.

Powerstations don't close so we didn't either

Think anyone who hates Christmas must have mental health issues. Truth behind Christmas is religious. But if that's not your thing, enjoy all festivities. If that's not your thing then just enjoy the peace of bank holidays. What's there to hate?

Maybe I thought I had mental health issues, but after I read your message I’m thinking you’re probably right. Perhaps I need to re-boot!

Thanks for your sound thoughts. I will make amends for the rest if this festive season ♥️

"Oh, please don't get me wrong - I fully respect people's choice to adhere to a religion, or not.

Stand up to hate.

I do that’s why I defend pensioners even the wealthy ones "

I love you babe x
