The point is that labour are rewarding him! Perhaps we shouldn't expect the system to have changed so quickly, but we also wouldn't expect rewards such as this one.

Maybe the reward was for his environmental work? Or his charity work? He raised £89.3 million in 2023/24! Did you know that? He’s also done a lot for educating society across the classes.

An example being the fining of drivers in London and the surrounding areas under the guise of reducing green house gases. I think that’s where the 89 million came from but who knows really, I’m from rural Lincolnshire so can’t understand big numbers like that. Anyway this fining doesn’t apply to everyone obviously because some people work really hard and are honest so can afford to pay to travel in their cars. This simple act also reinforces a tiered society so classes don’t get muddled up about where they sit on the ladder reducing confusion. He could have just banned all cars, stopping exhaust fumes n’ that which could have been been a bit better for polar bears and trees n stuff but why do that? That wouldn’t make money and plus polar bears don’t actually contribute to the economy very much and they don’t look like a minority so they are probably ok. Plus the trees have their own section in London don’t they?

He’s not an eco-fascist that’s unfair btw

It’s fascinating to me that people still think in terms of Tory vs Labour. Like good versus evil, polarities etc.

It’s not tin foil hat or flat earth to just briefly consider that both “sides” are actually backed by big business and money. It gives the general population the illusion of free will with votes etc but it’s not real

And Saddo Khan has been in 'power' for about 12 years. During that time knife crime has accelerated, an unworkable ULEZ system has been introduced and the once safe, vibrant city has become a bit of a dump. Hardly a great achievement. Certainly not one to be rewarded.

Doubt any government could end it whilst democracy remains, it is a system that seems to have the same logic to its popularity as that of the royalty.

Government in power actually has no control and are following an administrative rubber stamping role.

Candidates for honours are identified by public or private bodies, by government departments, or are nominated by members of the public.

The honours committees decide which nominations are approved and each committee is made up of people from across the political spectrum and are independent of the government.

Do you know what?

Maybe, unless you live in London, it’s frankly none of our business.

I am so tired of people from London complaining about Khan. When Londoners had the chance to get rid, they stayed at home. Yep he was re-elected and it makes no difference that the turnout was poor. The truth is Londoners stayed at home rather than get him out.

That tells me that Londoners, overall, are happy with him.

So, London, suck it up, you had your chance.

Yes Khans cutbacks, nothing to do with the tories reducing funding by approx 20% leading to police officers falling from 33k to less than 30k within 7 years (2010-2017). Also, he’s increased the portion of the mayors precept allocated to the met police to hire more officers, and since 2017 to present there is around 35k officers now.

Don’t let facts effect your narrative

I don’t live in London and I think Khans a clown, so I don’t have a narrative.

There’s no stats I can find knowing the number of rejoiners, but your original point was saying that the cutbacks were due to sadiq khan. However, from 2010-2017 funding had already been cut by 20% and the force went from 33k to below 30k officers, sadiq became the major in 2016. You’re blaming him for the cutbacks but you didn’t mention anything about the Tory government. Don’t let the facts effect your narrative though

"He was voted in by londoners 3 times. Must have done something right.

Hilarious that the right wing papers and the usual divs on here are all upset over 1 man rather than praising all the other people given gongs.

. Under 50 % total votes is very poor turnout. Shame you don't stay saying it as it really is. He has been in long enough. But of course default is always to go back to predecessors as an excuse. Another Starmer failed ploy "

Did you look at the other runners for London mayor this year? Pathetic. I guess they knew they couldn't beat him as he is so popular.

You've obviously forgotten though that after 14 years the tories were still blaming labour for money problems.

So, just more codswallop from you on a post just to get reactions when you could have praised people for their achievements.

Just as the daily fail etc have done today, which shows their intent is just to cause harm to the country.

Free school meals for primary school children.

Provably improved air quality.

Improved cycling infrastructure. I don’t live in London but I’ve cycled in it a few times and the improvements are massive. And it’s nice to be able to breathe air that’s 50% cleaner than it used to be while I’m cycling.

Continual improvements to public transport.

A high level of council house building.

But apart from that, what has he done?

Not everything is perfect. Crime has increased. But clearly the majority of Londoners think he’s doing the best job that he can do.

LTNs exist to restrict through-traffic on residential streets to make walking, cycling, and other active travel safer and easier. It also reduces pollution in those areas and encourages more people to use one of the best public transport systems in the world instead of driving.

The only people who are fined are those who are breaking the law. Why would you have a problem with law breakers being fined?

An interesting - theoretical - opinion from someone living in Nottingham, albeit an opinion that reads like it was cut & pasted from ‘the brochure’ for ULEZs and LTNs, so offers little added-value.

However, it is much more enlightening to read of the experiences, albeit of just one individual in London, who is actually living on a daily basis with the costs, practical realities, and plethora of cameras associated with these policies.

Sadly, to enjoy the benefits you quote, you may need to move to London, given Nottingham cancelled plans for a clean air zone when modelling revealed it was not necessary in order to reduce air pollution. They also have no plans for any LTNs.

You think the nascent Labour administration was to blame for the riots? Perhaps you should consider the role played by the likes of Robinson and the eejits who took to the streets to express their hatred of asylum seekers and islam.

"London is the home of the metropolitan liberal elite. "

It's home to all sorts of people, the majority of whom have voted three times for Khan to be mayor.

Many of those will have voted for him because they agree with his policies, whilst others will have seen it as a vote against the appalling Tory government.

Some are so blind that they blame Khan for the introduction of policies that have their roots in Conservative government. Some even blame him for increases in crime that again, have been directly caused by Tory cuts and misguided actions by Theresa May and her ilk.

Muslim might have some bearing on it since that particular ideology is not exactly welcoming to what we get up to on this site. His height and skin tone to not come into the equation at all. Nothing racist about what is wrote there. It's become quite a common term for London these days.

Within certain circles maybe, but no one I associate with would ever make such a racist comment.

Democratic elected three times by Londoners. Improved air quality, improved life chances and health of children. Not perfect but some significant achievements.

"Lots of people making comments here that neither live or work in London. What the fuck puts you in a position to comment. Yes I live in Lutterworth but I work in west London and employ 30 people who live in London, we think he's done a great job unlike Andy Street in Birmingham that did fuck all"

...

I have friends and family who live in London and they think the vitriol towards Khan is crass and largely unwarranted. It is also possible to form an opinion of the man as a politician through media that is objective and not bound by ideology, polemic or allegiance.

The whole idea of a forum is that anyone can contribute. You must comment on issues/events away from your home town?

It's like when people whine about others commenting on American politics.

It's very simple. Giving a place a disparaging nickname based on the ethnicity of the people who live there is to imply the ethnicity of the people living their makes the place worse.

I don't expect you to understand, you're a racist and so not very clever.

It does make me laugh the amount of boot lickers disparaging those who believe in a fairer society as though it's soke sort of insult. Like turkeys voting for Xmas. This country is a mess, because of people like this and they deserve it. It's just a shame for the rest of us.

Couldn't agree more. It's why so many of us Scots want a clean break. Plenty decent English people but the haters just grow and grow in numbers. It's the fact they are so easily led that adds to the problem.
