You don't actually know what is going on, you are only hearing what certain news channels want you to hear, and if they were truly falling out they have the means to do things covertly.

Best wait and find out what's really going on

I think we've got more to be embarrassed about with PM who undermines the UK at every opportunity... he goes into a negotiation and you just know we are going to lose out. Is he doing it deliberately or is he just totally useless??

Enough millions of American voters opted for Trump knowing full well his track record. The word embarrassment isn't in their lexicon.

Democrats have no reason to be embarrassed, they too know full well who Trump is. They did what they could to deny him power. Trump himself is obviously a creature immune from embarrassment.

Thus in so many ways, America is a post-embarrassment society.

I have many relatives and friends in America. Some of them are acutely embarrassed. Not particularly by the falling out but by the tariffs and their president’s lack of understanding of the financial and political implications. They are also embarrassed by Trump’s attempts to annex Canada and Greenland.

But many agree with everything Trump says and does, especially regarding his America First policy.

It varies from person to person.

America is polarised and divided, Putin's supreme achievement.

He's pumped money into the UK, feeding both ends of the political spectrum in order to confuse and divide. Just how often has Farage condemned Russia for its war on Ukraine?

Hitler worked hard on the Republican party, and in key states, to keep the US out of the war. It worked, Congress made sure Britain paid top dollar and more for everything in the Atlantic convoys.

Only when Japan attacked were the anti-war voices silenced. Hitler's insane vengeance was to ramp up the killing of Jews to mass extermination.

There are 500 elected social democratic MPs in the House of Commons. Just 127 right-wing MPs were elected but from the daily media coverage who would guess?

"Surely Americans must be really embarrassed at the moment, with what's going on over there with Trump, Musk ...Its hardly dignified"

The relationship between Trump and Musk seems to be quite complex. Recently, their alliance turned into a political gamble when they attempted to block a stopgap government spending bill in Congress, leaving both Democrats and Republicans frustrated.

Their collaboration has sparked debate, with some viewing Musk's involvement in politics as strategic, while others criticise Trump's responses.

Globally, particularly in the UK, both Trump and Musk tend to receive unfavorable opinions. In contrast, the US, being a diverse country, has a wide range of perspectives on the situation.

Meanwhile back in Blighty, more red faces of fury and disappointment 😡😡 as Starmer's tenure as Prime Minister has been. defined by catastrophic missteps and glaring incompetence.

Labour's popularity has nosedived under his leadership, with ill-conceived policies like means-testing winter fuel payments, blatant disregard of the vulnerable and pensioners welfare and a hapless response to persistent inflation.

The government's perceived economic mismanagement has further eroded public trust, while Starmer's ministers have been embroiled in controversy over lavish gifts and questionable hospitality donations. These scandals expose the government's dishonesty and detachment from the public's concerns.

With 61% of Britons expressing dissatisfaction, Starmer's administration has proven woefully incapable of addressing pressing issues like housing and healthcare.

The result is a country in disarray, struggling under the weight of Labour's ineptitude and Starmer's failed leadership..😡😡

"Meanwhile back in Blighty, more red faces of fury and disappointment 😡😡 as Starmer's tenure as Prime Minister has been. defined by catastrophic missteps and glaring incompetence.

The result is a country in disarray, struggling under the weight of Labour's ineptitude and Starmer's failed leadership..😡😡"

Economic miss management..

Good job Truss didn't do that then.

We were so lucky to have Johnson disappear to an ex kgb officers villa then put said mans son in the house of Lords, not dodgy at all.

How much did Cameron get for backing greensill?

Hope you're enjoying the 40 new hospitals and the 50m quid garden bridge.

Was national recovery possible in a year? Clearly not.

The notion the country is in disarray is for the birds. Mere polemic. Life continues pretty much as before for the majority.

The irony and the hypocrisy via the memory lapse:

The tories were reduced to a puny number of MP's because they had failed in the most spectacular manner.

Johnson,Truss and Sunak. Stop and remember their f--- ups.

Comedy nonetheless.🤣😭

The thread was reactivated this morning (not by myself). Considering the total clusterfuck over PIP - which you yourself have acknowledged just an hour or so ago - I thought your previous comments about how well we were being governed were hilarious. Well I’d say probably not. There are basically 2 sets of people in the U S. The ones that voted for Mr Trump, who still think he’s doing a great job, and the ones that didn’t, who are ‘well it’s not my fault, I didn’t vote for him’ so neither are actually embarrassed by him

Railway back into public ownership.

Greater fines for water companies.

Workers rights bill

Increase in minimum wage

Free school meals

A presence at the top table in global affairs all good stuff.

Winter fuel and this Pip bill are missteps in the public's eyes or at least some personally I think the mistep was to back down on winter fuel but hey, apparently the oaps can't survive with out a £300 hand out.

Are Americans embarrassed?

I don’t think they are a singular group with one outlook. I am sure some are, just like the UK citizens who have European colleagues and friends often felt embarrassed after brexit.

But as with both, there are plenty legitimate people who are happy with how things are going, so they probably are not so abashed.

Fourth, it recently overtook Japan.

Curiously and the right wingers will hate this but it is actually true both in America and Britain.

California and New York are democratic strong hold and basically finance America also the republican strong holds are the poorest and have the most people on benefits.

Same for Britain the cities London, Manchester, Bristol are labour strong holds but finance the country - well, London does.

But it's apparently the conservatives that are good with money. Go figure

California and New York States did not cast their votes for Trump. A glance at the predominant businesses in these regions reveals significant differences, as well as the potential for higher IQs of residents. Apple, Alphabet (Google), Nvidia, Meta (Facebook) , Apple ,Wells Fargo, Netflix, and Concentrix plus Pfizer , Johnson & Johnson. Pepsi, Estée Lauder, and IBM are also among the Fortune 500 companies based in New York. Amazon also in Washington .

They don't control the armed forces.

You buy equipment under contract, the contract will state what it can and cannot be used for. There'll also be a clause in it to request permission to override that clause. Yes all perfectly normal, it's so that their equipment can't be used in a genocide.

Lets look at the facts and leave unnecessary quips and comedic attempts of ridicule aside, if you please.

Recovering the country clearly takes time, but Labour's mistakes have made things worse. It's not about fixing everything in a year, but showing good leadership and a clear plan.

Labour's policies haven't worked, and people are clearly unhappy with their poor performance in their first year of office.

Admittedly the Conservatives made mistakes in the past, there's no doubt there, but the party has learned from them and has since corrected its course under their new leadership.

Labour's leaders don't seem to admit their own mistakes. Instead of listening to people's concerns, they're deflecting criticism.

Importantly the need is to focus on important issues like fixing the economy, sorting out housing, improving healthcare and improving care of the vulnerable and elderly population.

The people deserve a government that listens and delivers but that's just not happening with the Starmer government.

Milton Keynes

It's true that plenty of Americans stand against Trump. But I sometimes wonder if we Brits have rose-tinted ideas about how many Americans view us as friendly and a bit quaint. A lot don't- look at JD Vance's hostility to the Old World (that guy has such a chip on his shoulder). So basically a lot of Americans feel tired of being told off and condescended to a d rather like Trump putting some stick about internationally (without considering the longer term effects of course)

Turning domestically the 'Better than Boris' argument just does not wash with me, I'm afraid. Labour are screwing up. What we really need to do is rewind to the Election and they are braver and say 'Britain is broken and we will all need to contribute to fix it'. Today's U Turn is a new low: either the disability benefits need reform for all or they don't! Weak trimming that, sadly, is Starmer's MO.
